Hey guys! I just finished my very first AR build and wanted to join a forum with like minded people where I can get advice and start learning this awesome platform!
http://i58.tinypic.com/2eukd2t.jpg Here are the specs: Palmetto State Armory SS15G2 20" Upper with the FN CHF CL Barrel Palmetto State Armory Blem Lower G&R Tactical LPK ALG ACT Trigger VLTOR A5 Buffer System and Tube BCM Bolt Carrier Group BCM Gunfighter Mod 4 Charging Handle BCM Gunfighter Mod 1 Grip Magpul Enhanced Trigger Guard B5 SOPMOD Stock Impact Weapons Components QD Endplate Daniel Defense Front & Rear Fixed Sights Blue Force Gear Vickers CAP Sling Midwest Industries Flush QD swivels I have been saving money for over 2 years now, buying part by part (Only way to do it as a college student, and a working full time job as well). Sometimes it felt like only a dream, and when the big scare happened and everything sold out, I almost thought I would never get an AR. But it's here, and I am so stoked! I am looking for an optic right now, I am considering a Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x32 right now for a DMR/SPR type setup with maybe an Atlas bipod. Anyways thanks for looking guys I am happy to be a part of the AR community now! |

TJYODA, WOW that is one hell of a GREAT FIRST POST. Great Looking Rifle you Built, Good Job !!! I'm glad that you did not give up when times were hard. That show's that you really wanted an AR. I was wondering as to why you did not start with folding sights, if your original intent was too get optics all along. I would also suggest getting stocked up on Mag's and Ammo, if possible. PSA has a nice deal going on 10 packs of D&H 30rd Aluminum Mag's for $79.99 right now. Here's a link; http://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/dh-5-56-30rd-aluminum-mag-1.html And also, Welcome to ARFCOM. Now, what's your next rifle going to look like? |

Navy Chief - Thank you man, I really appreciate it. Yes I really see the AR as a symbol of our time as Americans, it was something I had to acquire and I'm glad I could part it out separately to avoid the initial heavy cost. But in hindsight I probably should have gone with a folding rear, but no biggie, I want to learn irons first before optics and I like the durability of fixed irons. My next build I would like to do some sort of 14.5" pinned rifle or possibly a 11.5" with the SB15 brace but thats a loooong time away haha. Oh and I just got 9 30 round PMAGs and 5 40 rounders as well today |

Hey man that is a great looking AR! My dad and I just finished our first 'build'. We assembled our own lower and installed a carbine upper. Now that I've been lurking the forum for months and checking out other equipment I want to build my own AR. I definitely want the VLTOR 7pos with other goodies but I have a question about the VLTOR buffer system.
What would you say your impressions are of the VLTOR 7 Pos A5 buffer system? How does the LOP feel with your B5 Stock on it? |
| MdGunner - Thank you man! And I am 5' 9 with longish arms and the AR's my buddies have, I always used to run the stock on the 2nd position, it was the most comfortable for me. So in this case the 7 position tube is perfect honestly. It wont collapse all the way to the 1 position, somewhere in between 1 and 2. But for me, its lowest position is my favorite already, so no big deal it doesn't collapse all the way. I am going to shoot the rifle tomorrow compared against my buddies AR with a carbine gas and H buffer and I can give you my impressions of the recoil impulse. |
Forget the AR, tell us more about that Fred Meyer coupon you have there. What can you use it on???
Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your first stick build!
Looks great and the parts list is impressive for a first build. Now get out to the range and pop her cherry |
