I have a Spikes Tactical Dynacomp shorty and I need to time it correctly, but when I tighten it down it is not in the correct position, it there a way to do this without spacers etc, thanks Mark

Yeah you should be using the washer that came with the compensator in order to time it correctly.

I did use the washer, maybe I am not using it correctly, I have it with the flatish side towards the barrel and the concave side towards the compensator.

That is correct, as you tighten the brake with crush washer installed, the washer will "crush" against the back of the brake. If you loosen, it will loose tension and be worthless. Its a one shot part, so go slow and check constantly. Put brake on so it touches crush washer, hopefully it will be timed to the 9 -10 oclock position. Use your wrench and tighten up to NEAR 12, don't go nuts. You have to eyeball it to get it where you want it. Like 1 degree at a time; get it snug, check, snug, check, snug, check. Look at it from muzzle end and from stock end. Go Slow. If you go too far, crush washers are cheap, get another and try again.

Well looks like I will need to get a new washer, what I did was remove the compensator, turned the washer over and now I am just past where I needed to be, lesson learned.  Oh well the guys at the gun shop are getting used to seeing me.
