Hey there everyone! New to the AR platform, and firearms in general. Been using everyones advice on here to help build my lower, which is now complete, and now need some help with a question about an upper!
My ideal build I am going for would look like this: http://stickman.rainierarms.com/galleries/Magpul%208/STCK0641-1200-Stick.jpg Ideally, I wanted to buy a complete upper, (As I do not have proper tools and torque wrench to sufficiently build one properly). However, I cannot find a complete upper with 2 general specs that I want: 16in. barrel mid length gassystem without FSP and with 14in Fortis Rev Rail. So to my question: If I bought, say, a BCM complete upper with a rail (other than the Fortis) already installed, how difficult is it to swap out rails and install the REV rail? Is there a better way to go about this? Id hate to buy a complete upper, and automatically remove the rail system... but is this what must be done? Does any company sell complete uppers with a low profile gas black installed without a rail? Will I need any special tools to do this, or is it a simple task? Thank you all in advance! |

Buy the BCM upper with no handguard installed. That is what I did, and then put the REV on So with this, I would have to remove the FSP, and install a low profile gas block, correct? Was this difficult to do? Also, does the Rev attach to the same barrel nut that comes on the BCM? Would I have to buy a new nut and install that as well? |

I shaved my FSB. Attaches to stock nut. See pic above By "shaving down" do you mean like using a dremel or hack saw and cutting it down? I just pulled up a youtube video on this.. looks relatively easy, Id hate to mess something up right after I bought it hahaha. If this is what you meant, may I ask why you decided to just shave it down vs removing and installing a low profile one? Just more money? Is it more difficult? |

Nothing is as solid for a gas block as a dual pinned A2. I am not one to pinch pennies on my rifles, if you do it right it looks fine and is bullet proof. Interesting... Did you use a Dremel to do it? THen after, just have to remove the delta ring and the spring? I really dont want to have to remove the barrel because I don't have a torque wrench.... Sorry, Newb questions Im sure hahaha |

Yep a dremel. Cut the delta and cap. There are many threads here about this with pics. Search them out and you find a ton of info Ok cool.. Ill search around.. So, long as the Rev rail attaches to the stock BCM barrel nut.. I wont have to remove it... Thus not needing a torque wrench and seeming messing something up haha.. |

I did that one in the pic without removing the barrel. Just put the upper in my vice claw, and went to work. |

Ahh damn... just looked around all over and I guess I no longer have my dremel... No idea where it went!
Hmmm gotta be another somewhat easy way to do this... I guess can I just buy a complete upper with an free floated rail already on it, and as long as that rail connected to standard barrel nut (just as the Fortis does), it should be a quick and easy swap out... right? |

Yes, if the barrel nuts are the same it will be very easy to swap out. |
