| My reloading manuals don't even mention 5.56 where can I find reloading information? |

I'm using "Modern Reloading" by Richard Lee and "Loading Guide Accurate Smokeless Powder" I'm not familiar with the latter, but you are right - the former is a pretty "light" manual. It certainly has enough information there to get anyone started, but I much prefer several other manuals I have to that one, I'd never recommend it to a newbie. It is more an advertisement for Lee equipment.
In many manuals, when you get to .223, they will have a statement about 5.56. Essentially, reloading metallic cartridges is governed by SAAMI. 5.56 is a military specification, and the pressure exceeds SAAMI specifications for maximum pressure. Therefore, we load .223 in reloading. Everything is the same. You can choose to try and achieve 5.56 velocities (and hence, pressures) but these will often be beyond the maximum allowed by SAAMI. |

It didn't really impress me as much more than a compilation of various manufactures published data. The Sierra book is great, because it lists pressure, spells out favorite loads, and sometimes breaks out loads for the AR15 vs bolt action .223. As to your question, just use .223 data, and the load data that equals 5.56 velocity you seek. It'll be close enough to it, and then work your way up to that at the bench. Or at least, that's my suggestion. I think there's too much fixation on 5.56 vs .223 Rem personally. |
