Name's Forge. Have been in the US Army for almost 9 years, E5 NCO and will probably be leaving active duty in late July, though will be going in the NG more than likely to reclass and get some OJT before starting an Information Tech degree at ASU (wife wants warmer climate lol).

I originally wanted an FS2000, but the versatility of the AR15 platform, parts availability and support such as this site/forum make the AR15 my "people killer" as my wife puts it.

As it is I was authorized by Household 6 to purchase, on an extremely tight budget, parts for my first AR.

As money was the object and I have a basic knowledge of the platform, I went with a fully built New Frontier lower. Trigger group is installed, as is the mil-spec adjustable buttstock, will post pictures later.

The auction on Gun Broker just ended for my the upper I was able to purchase: no name 14.5" (http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=399176789) upper chambered in 5.56 with a quad rail fore end and gas block, non-chrome barrel with 1-7 twist.

My goal with this weapon was to have something to have. I can upgrade/learn as I go but I wanted something to take to a range, hunt with and defend with.

My next goal is flip up iron sights, which looks like an ebay purchase. Then I'll have to cool it for a while due to wife aggro.

List for the future:
Stronger lower assembly so I can switch between 20" Long range setup, 14.5" all around setup and 11"-10" short range setup
Better buttstock
Pressure switch for the tac-light I have
Flip-to-side sight system so I can have CQ and ranged capability on this first, all-around setup
Research ideal long range upper build
Research ideal short CQB upper build

Pick this forums collective brain on wisdom and knowledge

Welcome to ARFCOM. I usually try to avoid Gunbroker.com because of higher price.

Welcome.  You're gonna catch hell here over the plastic lower, regardless of how many folks here have Glocks.  Some report the plastic triggers are better; have seen one pic of a hammer breaking, in which case a metal parts kit will work fine.

Don't slap it on safe when decocked.  NFA may have a warning in the owner's manual, but some plastic FCGs flex enough for that to occur, which probably weakens the FCG.  Use it 'til it breaks, some people are quite happy w/ theirs.  Probably not the best choice for hand-to-hand combat drills, though.

Got any Legos?

Gunbroker = one of the reasons I finally looked up this site. I'd love to network the resourses to the better priced places.

And as far as the plastic lower = lol yeah I figured as much. But it works for what I'm doing right now. People always hating

Legos? Gave em to my son why?

Welcome to ARFCOM.  As to your need for backup sites, check out Trading Place Pawn.  You can get a set of Magpul Gen2 MBUS for $75 + shipping, which is a fantastic price, and don't let the name fool you, they are a great source for AR accessories...

It is yes. I have the lower already. Man what a pain. First you have to find a FFL dealer and confirm with them that they'll hold your part/weapon for you. Then down to the actual main police station to pay $16.50 (exact change) for the permit to ACQUIRE a long gun. Then it takes 14 days to actually get the permit, no matter how government and security clearance'd up you are. Then at the end of those 14 days you have one week to get back down there and pick it up, of course they're not open on the weekends. So it's time away from work because there's too big a line to make it happen during lunch.

Now when I do get the upper in and make it a complete weapon I have to go BACK down there to show them. So it's a purely anti-gun gun state: you CAN have a weapon, but the hoops are so many and hard to jump through there's not much of a point, other than to make a point :)

Welcome & thank you for your service & for posting this. I hope you are a supporter of all persons 2A Rights. I hope also your experiences with the trouble of a convoluted system of red tape & hoops required by some states makes you an even more active supporter when you come back to the mainland.

Don't let others give you too much chit about your Poly lower. I have had an NFA on a 6.8 & it has been just fine. No condemnation here bro.

I was pretty committed to not buying anything gun related while on island, but one of my soldiers asked and I'd only ever registered my 1911 .45, so I suddenly had a justifiable reason.

As for supporting the Second, I believe in the core principle that I have a basic freedom to do as I want and others have the same right, aside from hurting anyone. Anything that gets in the way of that is unconstitutional in my book, generally speaking.
