Hey everyone! Snowed/Iced in for a day or two so I thought I'd hop on and ask some questions!

I'm currently about to obtain my first AR, a Daniel Defense M4A1 SOCOM and had a question about the pinned compensator.

Will it be possible for me to attach different compensators? Someone told me all it would take was more work for a gunsmith to install it but it should be good to go. Also if anyone has a preference on what good comps. are please feel free to inform! The BCM one looks like a good mix of everything I want it to do, but that's probably just their advertising.

Thanks all!

It will need to be done right and chopped off so I would go with someone like ADCO.

I have a BCM "The Jack" HSP Carbine, which has their Gunfighter Comp and 14.5" mid-length barrel/gas-system.

It shoots like a dream, very soft.

Whether that is more because of the comp or the barrel/gas-system, I'm not sure.

Yeah, that HSP rifle is what got me looking into it. I'm a total noob when it comes to comps/optics, but from what I have been reading it's pretty nice. Might have to pick one up, take it out and bring the results back to the forum with me.

I have a BCM Mod1 on a 14.5 and it works very well. I was rather impressed with the relatively small amount of concussion. A competent gunsmith should be able to replace your current flash hider with another of your choosing but  it will more than likely destroy the old one.

If I were buying my first rifle, I would buy a 16" without a doubt. I don't think GA has a law requiring any muzzle attachment to be pinned so you wouldn't have to worry about that on a 16". Pretty much anything you want to change to a 14.5" upper will require you to take your gun in and pay to have the old comp or whatever cut off, the changes done and a new one welded on. Seriously, since a muzzle devices for 14.5s are longer anyways you'll save less than an inch in my experience.
