I bought a used LMT upper, it's a carbine with iron iron site. I've been wanting to slap a add an adjustable low pro gas block, cover it with a free float rail, swap out the muzzle brake and put a red dot sight on it, and of course add back up magpul sights. But I'm wondering if that would be a wise idea since I've been hearing that LMT's are pretty well made and are worth keeping all it's OEM parts 'together'. Currently, it's disassembled so the "hard" part is done, but now I'm having second thoughts on deleting the iron sights and what not. No parts have been bought yet btw. So while I debate with myself, I'd like to hear what some of you would do if you had a complete LMT upper. Would you leave it as is and put together another AR or would you hack away you LMT upper and frankenstein it together? |

I took a complete LMT rifle, had the front sight shaved down to be a low profile gas block, and put a Geissele SMR 13" rail on it. LMT makes great guns, but it's not like you have an early Stoner/Armalite prototype or a factory Colt machine gun. Mod it how you want.

| if you're not going to sell the rifle who cares if changing parts will hurt the value. From your description you aren't really hacking up the gun, only removing parts and swapping with others. If you decide to sell the gun just swap the OEM parts back on, which would be better anyway since you really don't gain much by trying to sell a modded rifle. If it was my rifle I'd do what I want to do to it. |

Thanks for both of your input. I'm definitely going do as I please (or as my budget allows) just had to make sure I wasn't making too bad of a decision by replacing parts. I had swapping car parts in mind lol. Anyway, yea I don't plan on selling it and after all, I only bought this completed upper for $500 so I guess there's no huge loss. Thanks again. |
