Gentlemen, I am in need of a non F marked front sight assembly. Where would I find one? Everyone sells the F marked ones and I'm trying to be as accurate as I can in my tribute build.

Rifle build is a tribute to all the A2s I have been issued in the Marine Corps. My issue weapon now would be the M4 (though I still like the A4 better) but I would to build one like the one that became my best friend on P.I.

I recently ordered two Double Star A1 .625" diameter from Brownells that were not F marked. Not sure about the listed HBAR FSB.

Thanks for the links. I had seen the Brownell add already but it doesn't specifically say non F marked, the cobra tactical link is just what I needed. Thanks.

Looks like Fulton Armory has some. I used an M 16 take off from Apex on my retroish build and had John Thomas pin it on a new BCM barrel.

Is it possible to use a F marked FSB with a A2 upper and get it sighted in correctly? I'm wanting to build a light weight mid length 14.5" or 16" upper on an A2 receiver. Thanks.

Yes.  Just have to click the post down pretty far (really technical, about 1/8" of inch below flush).  Zero'd two at the same time.  Both are within a few clicks of being the same depth.
Don't know what your building, your experience, or what you want, but, if I was going to do it again, I would file a bit more than a 1/16" inch off the top of the sight post and blue it.
Did it on two DTI CL 1:9 16" mid-lengths.  Good Barrels, Good Accuracy, Great Price.  I only shoot 55-62 grain, so 1:9 works out great with about 2"-3" MOA with iron sights for me.
I wouldn't suggest if your going to do a lot of mag dumps as they are 4140 barrels and not CHF or if your going to put heavier rounds rounds through it.
Just a suggestion.  Good Luck!

I looked on Brownells site not long ago to find this exact thing and didn't find it.

You guys are good.

Thanks for responding. After posting I found several posts stating i can buy a shorter sight post for the FSB. I'll most likely file/sand mine down as you mentioned.

I noticed you're in Houston. I'm planning a very similar build to this, and am pretty much sold on a 14.5" with a permanently attached flash hider.  Do you know of a local smith who will drill and pin a front sight base and do the flash hider? Thanks

I just ordered an M16A2 FSB from Sarco for $19.99 in EXC condition.
Here
http://www.e-sarcoinc.com/m16a2frontsightbaseorigusedexc.aspx

I have a Govt profile 20" barrel mounted on a Spirit Arms A2 upper and tried to do a bore sight with a 223 cartridge laser and I couldn't see the laser as it was blocked by the too tall FSB that came mounted on the barrel from DelTon. The laser point was below the FSB and no amount of adjustment would help.
Funny how I got a triangle handguard cap with an F stamped FSB on an A2 profile barrel.

Make sure you close the bolt (slowly and very carefully) when you use the cartridge bore laser.
I'm a bad A2 person and don't have any 20" barrels, but...  If 16" middies, F FSB on A2 uppers zero... a 20" rifle length should zero.
A lot of 20" barrels come with F FSB's and triangular handgaurd caps made for A4's.
The longer sight radius makes it almost a mute factor and should zero, just a little below front site post flush with an A2 upper due to the higher F FSB.
Did you put rounds down range or just use the laser?
Just FYI --- I've tried to pre-zero on several of mine with a cartridge-style bore sight only to have to crank it way back until it was back to where it was before to zero.
I don't use it anymore and just zero the old, true way with no problems and have a cool little laser
Just my 2 cents.
Anyway, someone else correct me if I'm not correct.  Spunky, I just don't want you to go through any undue hassle for no reason before you have to.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the info meNmyARs,

I've used this same laser on a 16 and 20 build and it is close. It has to be reasonably close if the beam comes out the rifled barrel on a 20".
I couldn't even see the beam due to the FSB blocking the view. The beam was below the whole F marked shelf. Lower than the .040 taller it is supposed to be.
I used the forward assist to set the bolt and never slam it home via the bolt lock...
I haven't shot it yet but replacing the FSB is no big deal to me. Having the correct part will help.
I'll try the other boresight that fits into the end of the barrel, I have 2 of them but the cartridge was more accurate for my other 2 builds.
All the posts I have read indicate that I should be able to move the adjustable sight down .040 to compensate and that seems to be your experience too it appears.
