My bad.  I figured since the OP referred to a new pic thread because the other one was too Magpul-y, this was the place to post an A2 clone.  I'll move it to the proper pic thread.

Here you go...

I think this can be placed here:

M16A2 Carbine with M4 profile barrel (probably a M727), two position receiver extension, N1 stock and thin 6 hole hand guards.

No worries. We all start somewhere.

What we usually refer to as an A2 is by (at least) including in the frame, the A2 handle (non-removable); which differs from A1 style for a number of reasons, considered improvements at the time.

We start from this and then, consider other elements.

This thread specifically is dedicated to pictures of A2 rifles in the Military around the world.

That was easy. Thank you.I just purchased a Colt and it does not have the handguard. I noticed that most of the A2's I see here have the standard rifle buttstock.

That is correct a vintage A2 would have a fix stock, pistol grip with finger rest, fix charring handle with A2 adjustable sights (windage/elevation), round handguards, 20" bbl with 1:7 twist, A2 flash hinder and bayonet lug.

The Export 727 pics are bad a$$. My 727  ( on page 3 ) has the same features as the pictures posted above. I was in a Colt armorer course about three years ago and decided to ask the instructor about the 727 and what features it had. I figured he would not know much about it but I was wrong. He knew every model inside and out. He advised that my clone should have a two position tube and old style lock ring. I took his advice and built it with those features. Until now I have seen no good pictures confirming those features but damn he was right. The only difference is that my carbine is grey. This is my favorite thread and things like this are why.

Actually, thanks for pointing that out.  You would've thought the finish would be grey on a 727.....

I am glad I could contribute with my pictures and give something back. I have found a lot of good advice and help here over the years.

I guess the M727 is a pretty late model, judging from the "COLT'S MFG CO INC" markings. It really looks almost black. Maybe the grey finish turned dark from handling and oiling?

Here some more pics for the detail-lovers ...

Judging from the marks on the barrel it seems there was a M203 attached.

I hope that is not too much. If so, admins feel free to delete this post.

*Notice the big-head forward assist in the first picture below ... it's probably "clipped" so it would work with reinforced areas on A2 lowers.

On those two pictures, top one I would say tape, notice rear stock is done too.  Bottom picture I would say Hensolt scopes as we had few available at the time.  Same guy is wearing the reversible tan/desert night pattern heavy GorTex jacket.  The Toyota truck is also modified the way 5th SFGA used during the conflict.

SAW, I know but hold on it gets better.

Guess a m203 isnt "technically" a m16a2 but besides qual every year I hardly touched anything but my SAW

Yep it was me.  I used one on my Colt 653 during the Storm.  It was a Blitz model.  I mostly carried it in a scope can on my LBE since we also had a HK MG21E  (7.62 NATO) which always had a Hensoldt (6x42 ?) attached.  I have a picture some where of me on the roof of one of the flat top Middle Eastern homes/huts using  a small kids tricycle as a chair with the  HK and a couple of AT4s.

Cheers

That is a picture of some 5th Group soldiers in Kuwait who were with coalition forces.  I would almost bet that that picture was taken on the highway outside the capital,Kuwait City.  The 5th had a few different set ups during this period.  They were using early one inch tube Aimpoints and access to the Hensoldts Blitz scopes.  I think they came from Guns South.  I don't think they officially had the DM program then.  However quiet a few people attended the Special Operations Target Interdiction Course.

The following photographs are from a series taken during Operation GOLDEN PHEASANT in March 1988. The soldiers are part of Task Force DRAGON (comprised of elements of the 82nd Airborne Division, 7th Infantry Division, and others - the above Wikipedia link has a detailed OOB). All the images show the M16A2 in use. I have presented them in the order they were photographed.

DOD identified the soldiers in these photographs as 82nd Airborne and "Rangers" of 1st Regiment, 17th Cavalry Brigade (of course the DOD has such as well documented history of being "reliable").

En route to an LZ inside a UH-60. The SGT at the left is wearing ERDL and a still unidentified commercial tactical vest (I have been trying to identify the vest for awhile). SP4 Rodriguez (center) is wearing the FY1986 Adventure Specialist manufactured trial/test IIFS TLBV (which was still, at the time, being trialed by various units including the 7th ID). The M16A2s all have yellow stenciled "rack" numbers on the buttstocks:

A view to the other side of the SGT:

The same soldiers now on the ground. The SGT is now rucked up with the trial/test IIFS FPLIF (Field Pack Large Internal Frame). The soldier directly behind the SGT has a Colt 3x20 telescopic sight mounted on his M16A2 and is wearing the trial/test IIFS TLBV. The SP4 in the center (third from left) is also wearing the trial/test IIFS TLBV:

Soldier with the 82nd Airborne (from second image above, at the left):

Soldier from the third image above showing both the Colt sight and the trial/test IIFS TLBV details (as well as a "friend"):

Same group of soldiers. The soldier with his back to the camera (at left) is the soldier from above (with the Colt sight) showing the back of the trial/test IIFS TLBV. The SGT (from above) is holding the map (his trial/test IIFS FPLIF is against the tree at the upper left). The SP4 at the right (also in the third image above) is also wearing the trial/test IIFS TLBV. The soldier with the 82nd (from the fourth image above) is at the top of the image.

Thanks for the pics.

It's interesting (from an '80s Army perspective) that they're wearing green patrol caps with the Woodland and ERDL uniforms. Before HWBDUs came out in 1986, big Army allowed us to wear the OD green jungle fatigues if we had them, but we had to wear Woodland BDU patrol caps with them.

I have the same extension tube except it has no wear, I noticed the last remaining threads are rounded via machine prior to finishing this matches yours.  I really need a early lock nut, I have the newer castle nut.  Did the 0727 come with the big button forward assist or the small?  I have some original usgi big buttons available on EE.  I have one on my A2 CAR.  I'll post a pic when I'm finished waiting on a polymer lower.  I would really like an M16 lower but I don't want to spent $160 for a clone.  I would like an original.
