I called colt and they told me that's when mine was made.  Approximately.

I'm not sure why I'm telling you all this other than it was my first AR and I like a 20" gun.  And this one is nice.  I need some better pics of it.   And this forum is pretty slow, so....

I love the gray color of vintage rifles. It looks nicer than black in my humble opinion. And it reminds me of my childhood.

I'll take better pics of it soon.  Because there is something nice about that grey.  Not sure what it is.  I guess it just looks...  older.

It is a nice Blue Label Colt!

Is it a H-BAR barrel or Govt. profile?

Looks very nice!

I have a R6600K just about like yours, but is on the slab side (SP1) lower with the H-BAR barrel. It does not get shot (& has been shot very little) cause of the H-BAR barrel. Just too darn heavy. I bought it in unfired condition.

Mine is a Govt profile.  It's and ST (Sporter Target)

Since we're talking about it, I'll talk some more about it.  What does blue label mean?

I think the upsides to a Colt are that they seem to have a slickness to them that I don't feel in other AR's.  I don't know if the metals are different or what.  And of course if my memory is correct it has the C MP marked bolt.  BUT, the bolt is one of the neutered ones.  Semi circle at the rear.  And it has the stupid sear block.  So you can't install a 2 stage trigger from RRA in one.  Plus I hear the pins are different size.  I don't know.

Another thing, this barrel is picky.  It's not so much that it is inaccurate.  Because it's not.  However, the real downside is the change in POI between different ammo.  It is DRASTIC.  I find it very annoying.  I mean it's like several inches at 25 meters.  And not just up and down but all over the place.

BUT the upside is if you have just one kind of ammo to shoot, it's not bad at all.  It's not stellar accurate with Q3131A but acceptable.  It does however really like just about anything black hills produces.  Why?  I don't know.  Or match ammo in general.  You stick some BHB 75's, 68's and even the 52's and it's a 2 MOA gun without trying too hard.  With a scope on the handle for me.  And even with that heavy trigger.  Another downside of the Colt.  Although I don't know if it's much worse than any other single stage AR trigger.

It actually wears an A1 buttstock right now as that is just more comfortable for me.  The A2 is just too long.

But it's my first AR, it has a certain panache and it's not going anywhere.  And yeah, that Colt Grey looks good.

I'm a fan of A2 sights and handguards.  But I'd prefer the weight of an A1.  But I like a 20" over 16"  I don't know why other than I know it gives it a little more zip and longer sight radius.  So I think if I had to make an ultimate rifle it would be this with a 2 stage trigger and a A1 profiled barrel that didn't shift in POI and was accurate.

Looks good!  Mine is a 1996 colt Govt profile .   Bought it used 2 years ago but I doubt it had more than a hundred rounds thro it.

What's your barrel like as far as ammo and accuracy goes?

BBL is standard contour and weight.  I generally shoot 62 grs out of the 1/7 BBL but 55 works as well.  Accuracy is kill shots on man sized targets out to 300.  Its not a Match rifle but it scoots

For some reason you buttstock looks shorter than an A2.  Is it?

So is mine. I got it for 800, looked like 500 rounds max went through it before I got it. It came with an extra stock, an old school aluminum collapsing stock that's going towards a retro carbine build.

I still need to get the barrel threaded.

Yes, Sir.  It is a shame to have such a sexy sweetie without the proper accoutrements.

great picture.  I like the sling too.

I'm so anti "tactical" that I don't know if I'd spend money to thread a barrel.
