I rushed to get this build done this weekend as a tribute to all the brave men and women who served and continue to serve in defending our country.  I would have gotten the build done much earlier, but somehow the funds for this project keep getting diverted for something else .  But finally she's all done and here she is with my Italian import 92FS  All the parts used for this build are all Colt, except for the NoDak Spud gray A2 lower receiver, 2-pos receiver extension and Sabre Defense extended A2 compensator.  The A2 comp was timed with shim washer, which is period correct and permanently pinned to non-F marked Colt 14.5" M4 barrel for minimum of 16.1" overall length.  I already have an Aimpoint 3000 and will post updated pictures as soon as I can find the darn ARMS mount somewhere in the parts bin.  Found it!  Have a great Memorial Day everyone and enjoy the pictures

Me likey :)

Now where's the barrel-clamped Surefire and the cardboard cutout of William Fichner to hang the rifle on?

On a more serious note, what battery does that vintage Aimpoint take?

I'm working on one.  It will be 100% Colt parts, minus the extended flash hider.

Just need to find a stripped colt lower.

The vintage Aimpoint uses DL1/3N batteries.

When I was 2 years old, my dad bought me a Colt 7.62x39 carbine. When I was 10, he bought the N marked old school fiberlight stock. I wore the barrel out throughout my childhood. I really want to pick up a 6920 or 6921 barrel and rebuild it into something like this. These old school carbines look COOL!

What is the correct carry handle mount and rings for the time period? Was the ARMS carry handle mount around in '93?  how about Leupold's QRW rings, where they around?

@ Gunnut003:  Does the extended A2 comp look familiar?  Thanks for hooking me up ... it's the best looking one out there IMHO.

The ARMS #2 mount were definitely around in '93 because Colt uses the same mounts for their Delta HBAR rifles as shown in their 1987 catalog.  Only difference is the mounts that came with the Delta HBAR were marked with the stylized Colt logo.  I'm not sure if the Leupold QRW rings are period correct.  But a lot of the SWAT team members I know at the time were using the Leupold split rings as pictured below.

The A2X Looks good.  I just decided to go with the jamb nut cuz ots a bit cheaper for me...thats about $250 in A2Xs i would need to spend... Wher with the jamb nut I am at about half that price.

On the rings, how about the quad weaver ones you are using on your clone, are those period correct? I got a set of those too...i may still keep the qrw rings and get a similiar pair for a scope so i can have a bhd "package" kit.

On the aimpoint on your 727 , you suck, you have the earlier knob(i think it is more correct)...i have the later non pointy knob oj both the 3000 and 5000...

I think it was a different variation of the Arms # 2 back then though.  The current # 2 has a mil-spec M1913 rail, the olders ones (maybe even a different model number) had a Weaver pattern rail.

Agree on the Leupold rings, same rings I've seen on virtually every vintage Aimpoint.

Correct. the weaver ARMS #2 is correct. Further more, I dont think it is the nicely engraved one, but rather the more Stamped markings version that is more correct......

The split rings that came with the aimpoints I got, are not the same as the LEUPY ones. So I guess I need to find some older Leupold split rings?

Any chance you can post a pic of the Aimpoint and Leupold split rings side by side?  Just for us nerds.

There is a company making Wever pattern carry ahndle mounts that look just like the older ARMS units, US Tactcal Supply or somehting like that.  Want to say i saw them on M&A Parts website.

Here is probably the most accurate early 90's aimpoint rings and ARMS #2 handle....the picture is from arfcom archive, the owner got it from someone who got it in the early 90's

I dont have side by sides But, I found what I presume are factory aimpoints with mounts, box and accesories that people have sold via google images and they show both versions.  Leupy I presume are the rings with the round tops around the screw area, and the other brand is with the "line" just below the top screw. I am switching to the Leupy style as they seem better quality.

As for the ARMS #2 mount here is the chronological order, I THINK how they came...

Some of the earlier ones (courtesy of crackedcornish).
I have one like the middle one pictured, but I think the correct one is the one in the third picture down on the left side, and the right side just has the NSN numbers without the "NSN" stamped, just the numbers, and the stamping looks like free hand. (as pictured in first two pictures above. )
I also have one with the "A.R.M.S. 16-A1A2" left side buy it has the "Colt" and "horse" on the right side.

Both the lastest (that I cared to learn about) weaver and picatinny versions are marked like this on the left side

ARMS weaver right side

Arms picatinny right side

Great carbine and pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Wow.

I just have to throw this out there though.  I'm no expert, and I wasn't there, but from all the pics I've ever browsed, the mounts always seem to be more blocky on the end.  Bushmaster used to carry a mount that looked like this.  It was more of a rectangle and was not relieved like the ARMS is.  So......  I'm sure there is a really good chance they were used (ARMS #2), but I just don't recall ever seeing one in a picture.  Which is what it is.  I wasn't there, and only seen some pics.

Just wanted to throw that out there.  I personally could care less what mount one uses.  That is a GREAT set up.  I'm very envious.  I would love to have on just like it also.
