| Greetings. I used to have a SGW AR15 (M16A1 clone) a long time ago, but it has been 25 years since I sold it, so I've been out of the black rifle loop for a while. Today I just got a like-new used lower assy bought from the EE. It came with a take-off A2 buttstock from a Colt Match Target. The buffer appears to be black plastic, but seems correctly weighted. Is this the standard buffer with Colts? If I decide to replace this buffer with a USGI or other buffer, what will I need? I have seen / heard of H-1, carbine. etc. buffers on some threads. I'm trying to build a M16A2 clone. Thanks in advance. |

Colt tried to get folks used to those plastic buffers a while back...they work, but I prefer the standard metal bodied ones in the A2.
If you find a good metal one, throw away the plastic Same thing goes for the plastic door to the A2 cleaning compartment. Toss and replace. I don't think Colt has been using these cheaper parts lately. |

+1 on what a308garand said.
during the AWB Colt MT rifles came with those plastic buffers and trap doors... they work but I've seen a couple of those buffers cracked. there's only one type of buffer for fixed stocks; H1, H2 and H3 buffers are for the collapsible stocks only. |

I checked and the buttstock door is metal. |
