| I'm helping a buddy w/ an A2 build after he saw my rifle and fell in lust. He's looking to buy a complete upper w/ a BCG, charging handle, etc. What would the A2 aficionados of Arfcom choose and why? For reasons of his own; Colt IS NOT an option. What say the hive? |

Why not a Colt? If not restricted by a ban, its still a deal.
$1000 for a complete Colt sporter off gunbroker.. Easy to find at that price. Often for cheaper....Bought one for $799. Vs. $600 for a quality upper $100- receiver $75- stock $80- parts kit Still about $850... The Colt will retain its value, vs. the parts gun. |
| I've done three out of BM parts for buddies with the exception of Colt BCG's and charging handles. They all were comparable to my Colt/FN rifles and were great shooters. Lot of excellent condition FN and Colt upper parts floating around right now for less coins than new BM parts The BM parts I used were dirt cheap from seller getting out of the AR game and clearance $55 uppers. Did buy one barrel from PK. At the time Colt/FN parts were hard to find on a deal. The Delton A-2 govt profile 1-9 kit for $475 is gonna be hard to beat. Pick up a cheap A-2 lower and you're built for less than $600 with mag and sling. Should be a real nice piece and hold it's value. At the local funshows new Delton's are usually $629 plus tax and paperwork fee but haven't seen a govt profile build. |

If Colt is NOT an option, then I would do an FN barrel with a Keyhole forge upper, or a complete Bushmaster 1/7 upper minus BCG and CH and go with BCM $149.00, or a Spikes BCG for $100.00. Charging handles are charging handles unless you start getting into the Gas Busters, BCM VLTR MODS 3/4, etc.
+1 Bushmaster +1 FN Build |

Colt lower receivers are for the most part illegal to own in California. So in order to get a "Colt" rifle he would have to have the time and money to piece together a ton of Colt parts off the internet and then slap em all together onto some other company's receiver. |

In Callyfornya you have to go by the "list". I'm thinking a Grizzly, Spikes Tactical or CMMG. I don't think they are banned. The list of illegal AR-15s was written in 1992 and so, fortunately for us, is very outdated. It is extremely easy to get off-list lowers nowadays. This is the dreaded "LIST" of illegal lowers: American Spirit ASA Model Armalite AR 10 (all) Golden Eagle M15 (all) Bushmaster XM15 (all) Colt * AR-15 (all) Law Enforcement (6920) Match Target (all) Sporter (all) Dalphon B.F.D.
