I'm trying to scratch-build an AR-15 DMR-type rifle.  Any suggestions on manufacturers for the barrel and upper reciever?

What cailber?  If 5.56 a White Oak barrel might just be the best bang for the buck.  I'm guessing A-2 flavor since posted here?  All of the A-2's I've built have been great shooter's even with used surplus barrels.  I'd probably try and find an excellent condition used upper receiver.  I'd say any name brand would be fine but hard to beat a Colt.  You might want to buy a complete upper as it's a buyers market right now.  Are you gonna use a free float set-up?  Probably best for a DMR.  Have used BM free float with excellent results at long range.  Complete rifle,  RRA if you want a stainless barrel.  Armalite is good also. Lots of good choices.

Douglas stainless match barrel, 1/8 twist, from Compass Lake Engineering. The army uses Douglas in its SDM-R, and I used one in mine. BCM sells good M4 upper receivers.
