I have heard mixed reviews about POF rifles.
How about some actual owners to give some real world experience with POF. From the specs they look like they should be great. |

It took some experimenting with buffers to get my 415-7 running 100% suppressed but that seems normal for super short sbr’s.
The end of my gas plug blew off one day and they sent me a new one. They thought it could have been a bad tempering job. Other than that it’s been great and I shoot wpa ammo through it all the time. I shot groups with Hornady TAP ammo when I first bought it just to see what it could do and my best 5 shot was 1.25” at 97 yards. http://i432.photobucket.com/albums/qq43/jbarchitect68/case_zps4658ff22.jpg |

So far I really like mine. I found that it was very easy to sight in and stays consistantly on target, much better than I do. Easy to clean, seems to shoot everything I feed into it. I like the overall build quality. Tha being said, you should expect a few of the my friend had one and.......stories. When I got mine, I read the "stories"came to the conclusion that I would have to live with it, and am really glad I let it do the talking. Bottom line if I was looiking right now to get one, would I buy it again, and the answer would be a difinite yes.

I don't own a POF, but do own a Hogan. For the sake of avoiding an argument, the two companies are born of the same platform. They are virtually the same thing with different looking handguards. With that being said, I'd imagine that the POF is a solid platform. My Hogan is a tack driver and never given me any issues. If your worried about reliability of the platform of the POF gas piston, I wouldn't . It will be a rifle you will hand down to your grand kids. BUT, have the young ones (if their born) start doing curls cause this platform is HEAVY. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my H-223, but if I could trade it for another rifle, it would be an LWRC IC. I handled one of those recently, and it's A LOT lighter.....I will say though, over the LWRC, I love the Rock Creek barrels in the Hogan / POF USA rifles.
Just my thoughts on it. |
| I carried an M16 and then an M4 for years in the Army (the M4 in combat in Iraq and AF). Although they never let me down, I had no interest in buying a direct impingement rifle for myself. Piston rifles were a different matter, and I settled on a P415. What a sweet weapon. Superb fit and finish and materials, highly accurate, and reliable (and there's no mess to contend with while/after firing). POF set the standard, if you ask me. |

I know that every mfr has its share of problems, but it does seem that POF-USA gets more abuse than most, from what I've read here at least. Dunno what that's about, unless it's resentment that their pricing is so high, though to me ALL the quality rifles are pricey these days. Anyway, nice first post pcbrig! |

I have no experience with the 415 but I do have a p-308 as does my boss. First off, I absolutely love my p-308. It's hands down the nicest rifle I have owned or even ever shot. It's super accurate and has a fraction of the recoil that my Remington 700 which is also 308.
After only 150 rounds through my p-308, the gas block pins backed out of the gas block leaving the gas block loose on the barrel. Kind of disappointing, but their customer service was top notch! I shipped out my complete upper and I had it back in to my door in 2 weeks with a new gas block/pins installed. I have read numerous stories of terrible customer service, even my boss has had a bad experience with their customer service. On my bosses rifle (also a p-308), one of the tiny e-clips popped off of the dust cover pin/rod causing the dust cover to pop off. He e-mailed and called them a few times. The first time, they told him to head over to Home Depot and buy a new e-clip. after not being able to scrounge on up he contacted them again and asked if they could just mail him one, which they agreed to do. That was 2 months ago, still no e-clip. I know it's kind of petty, but come on, this was a practically a brand new $2600 rifle, at least act like you give a crap about your customers. Bottom line, if I had to do it over again, I would without a doubt buy another POF rifle. Hope this helps |

Mine is also a Hogan built P-308 (All POF marked parts though from when they did the switch over). It runs great now.
It took a year and three trips back to Arizona before the rifle would shoot consistently without either FTF's or FTE's. The first visit back to the shop, they replaced the Gen 1 gas block with a Gen 2, which at least took care of the FTF problem. Using only ammo they told me to use, I was still having insanely high rates of FTE's, with stove pipes on almost every other shot. Sent it back again, and they blamed my lack of lube (I shot it as they sent it). It turned into a giant thread here where both I and Hogan posted videos, and I took the rifle back out as they lubed it, with a failure 3 shots in. They accepted it back again, drilled out my gas hole, and now it runs pretty good. With the weight of this thing though and the problems I went through to get it running good enough to actually shoot it, I wish I made another choice. I have heard great things about their 5.56 rifles though. |
| I recently picked up a P415 from a private seller and I think it's an awesome rifle. It is heavier than my others but the report is so distinct after each shot that I clearly notice it vs my DI rifles. I guess I missed all the threads that caused all the apparent POF hate around here. I really like my POF. |

I too a P415 owner. I have no problem with it for 4 years now. I have not even used any spare parts that I brought.
The fit and finish was great. The Anodiize was much better than the company from Hartford, CT. It eats those cheap wolf ammo without any hiccup. Not so with my MSAR STG556. Some says the Predator rail is heavy and rasie the sight higher than normal. It is fine with me. |

I just ordered my 1st p415. Very excited as I thought I would never spend this kind of money on an AR. Was saving for a SCAR16 but could not justify that kind of cash right now for the thing and love the looks of the POF rifles. Though this is by far not my first outing with a AR rifle, it is with a gas piston AR. I have had SIG 556's and do like how clean the piston set up runs.
So hope it will get here fast and I can start playing. |
| My Gen 2, 14.5" NP3 P415 with just over 500 rounds has been flawless. I've had it for 2 years and the only issue was blown primers that was ammo related. I ran it through a 1 day carbine course and it performed so well the instructor requested to use it during demos. This was my first experience with pistons. As a result I subsequently acquired an LWRCI M6 6.8 SPC. I no longer have the L dub, primarily due to most of my shooting is range and an occasional class. 6.8 is not a plinking round, too expensive. I do still have the POF as well as a Noveske and a Colt, reason for the low rounds. With that said, I can't say that anyone of the four(4) POF, LWRC, Noveske or Colt are better than the other. They each have their individual qualities that make them better than the other but on a whole in regard to performance, IMHO they're all equal. YMMV |

Another satisfied customer here. I am wondering if those negative things we have heard are in the past now? I bought mine a month ago and have about 500 rounds through the pipe and this thing shoots sweet! I was looking at both LWRC and the POF. I went with POF simply because of availability. I am not disappointed at my decision one bit. I love fondling it because the build quality is top notch and it just feels like a tank. Yes, it's a little heavier than a DI gun but not by much. I put 50 rounds through it on the first day and went to clean it and I was shocked how clean it was. Next weekend out I put about a hundred rounds through and same thing, the bolt looked like I just cleaned it. Then I beat on it the next weekend with an additional 300-400 rounds doing some training. I will be out again doing some fire team training with the guys again but I can tell you I will trust this thing in SHTF. My one gripe; That damn piston rod slides freely back and forth after an empty mag and hits the bolt. It's loud. Maybe they should've put a return spring on the piston rod?
Also, for those that aren't in the know, Cabela's has an exclusive POF. It is an olive drab with FDE furniture and it looks sweet! |
| Glad to hear some positives on POF. I have always liked the look and feel of these guns and so yesterday made a total impulse purchase for a 415 with an 18 inch barrel. After everything I've been reading I'm saying to myself this mfer better not give me fits or it's will be in the chopping block. |

I bought an unfired POF in 6.8mm from a private seller. Today was my first day shooting it, so take the review for what it's worth. There were 2 failures in 160 rounds: one double-feed and one failure-to-feed. Both failures were on 120gr Hornady ammo (plastic tip). I shot 100 rounds of SSA 110gr OTM without issue. Regardless, the rifle shot great! The link below is to a pic of 10 rounds of SSA 110gr at 75 yards. It's not the longest shot and was using a bipod with no wind, but I'm also not the greatest shot in the world. Overall, I'm a bit nervous over the failures, but I'm pretty happy with the accuracy!

The mags were PRI 10 rounders and both failures were using Hornady 120gr 6.8 SST (link below). To be honest, it was a new rifle, with new mags, and 2 types of ammo, so I'm not sure where the mishap lies. I need to shoot it a few more times to narrow in on the issue; it could just be a new rifle that needs some break-in time. I'm leaning towards the ammo, but only because I had two issues with it in 60 rounds vs no issues with the SSA ammo in 100 rounds. Both types of ammo were shot out of both mags (I only had two mags with me). I think it just means I need to shoot more...

Very happy with My P-308 20" no issues at all after 800+ rounds
My buddy went over 1000 rounds with his P415 18" out of the box without cleaning (he didnt know how to clean it) took me 2 years to get him to admit that he didnt know how and that the gun shop said he would never "have" to clean that rifle The lower was spotless, the bolt and carrier wiped clean with a cloth and the barrel and chamber took a light brushing.. Im sold on the POF platform, customer service and parts shipping have improved by heaps and bounds since the move to the larger facility. just my 2 cents |

I have a 16" P415 in NP3. I have had it for six monthsand have fired at least 1000 rounds of various factory and handloaded ammo thru it. It really shoots 75 and 77 gr. bullets well. It shoots 55 gr. Nosler ballistic tips surprisingly well also. I have had absolutely no problems with it. I love it because I am a lefty and I get no gas in my face like I do with my DI guns.
I hated the factory comp as it was punishing. I replaced it with a YHM flash suppressor. |
