Hello all.....
I am now the proud owner of an Adams Arms 5.45 upper, I have waited about 4 months and it is really fun to shoot. However I have ran into an issue, I cleaned, and lubed the entire thing and shot about 50 rounds of surplus ammo yesterday, When gave it a wipe down I noticed that the bolt cam pin is contacting the receiver. it is only very slightly, but metal shavings were present. While I await a return email from Adams I figured I would also post here to see if this was a more common issue with a simple fix. After some more research I found the POF Roller Cam Is this the best solution, or a band aid for a larger issue? Sorry in advance. I am a piston noob. Thanks |
| Apparently that is normal. I read about that a while back when i was researching those uppers. I bought a used one and it is doing the same thing. It will shave the groove down until it gets the clearance it needs then you will no longer see shavings. An answer is to get the round pin, but those that had the issue claimed it was self limiting. |

Thanks When you say "contacting the receiver" are you referring to normal cam pin wear or is it contacting someplace else that isn't normal? Cam pin "gouging" is completely normal on piston and DI rifles. The wear on the inside of your upper receiver will eventually wear to a point where it will stop. If it helps you sleep better at night you can purchase and install the POF Roller Cam Pin. I use one on my SIG 516 just because I wanted to try something different and I thought it was a cool little device. There have been reports on this forum that gouging still occurs when using the POF Roller Cam Pin, but it's minimal. |

On my Rock River DI .223 there is normal wear, that has occurred slowly over 2000 rounds and looks 1/10th as bad as this looks after 50. I will post pics after work . If it makes you feel better I have heard and seen varying degrees of cam pin gouging, but not to the point it effects the function of the rifle. Looking forward to the pics. |
