hi guys

can anybody explain me how the new piston system of the enhanced M4 works? Its called articulating piston system. Is it a normal piston system like in a AR18? Or something very new?
and btw. why the army uses the direct impingement gas operating system? Its proved that this version is less reliable than the indirect one. Its a little bit less heavy, but thats all?

sorry for my english

Please see my thread here for pictures of Colt's piston system, to include the articulating link.

Basically, the transfer rod has a ball on the end that sits in a pocket on the piston. This allows the two parts to work together while remaining free to flex and twist if necessary.http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_126/604811_Colt_6940P__Piston_Parts_Pics.html
