Once this craziness dies down, I would like to pick up a piston AR. I done research on various guns but can't seem to find much info on Huldras. Anybody got any info or help on quality of gun?

I picked up a 5.56 basic carbine upper right before Christmas. But I haven't had the time to take it out to the range yet. The finish is basically black paint on the upper receiver. There are some tooling marks on the flash suppressor where they tightened it down. The best looking part of the the uppers is the BCG. It is slick as owl poop, it is milled out of some good stock. http://www.huldraarms.com/uppers/product_96b0941ad4da/
I have it mounted right now on a Palmetto State mil-spec lower and there seems to be some play in the fit between the lower and upper. I am going to put it on a Rock River commercial lower that i have and see how it does, fit wise. Hopefully I will be able to hit the range in the near future and I will report back.

I bought a midlength upper and put it on a LRB lower. Reading the product manual, it says Huldra is the "distributor" but the upper was built by Adams Arms. I put 20 rds thru it to test function and it works fine. Barrel and bolt seem pretty good quality to me. Some parts are melonited but I'm not clear which ones are.

Hi guys,

Feel free to check out our industry section as well for more info. Our products our manufactured by Adams to our specs and configurations and then we are the seller/distributors.

Templar, the finish on the upper is standard type 3 anodizing. If you're not happy contact us and we take care of you.

Wegs,
I know I'm seen as biased but I have thousands and thousands of rounds through our rifles. I also carry one on duty with me at my "day job" I trust them that much. If you have any questions email me or iM me, happy to help.

Thanks, Dave

I picked up a Huldra Midlength upper about 12/18 or 12/19 about a couple days before everything AR was stripped from nearly every store, both locally and online.

As said above, they are Adams Arms which is good in my book.  I have a lot more experience with RRA uppers but everything I have heard about AA stuff is good.  The fit and finish is great and I have seen a lot of uppers.  And I agree that the BCG fit/finish appears about as good as it gets, outside of my Young MFG National Match BCG which retails for $100 more than your typical AR BCG.

As far as the upper I haven't been able to shoot it as much as I want.  Its not even broken in yet but I did have a few initial hiccups.  It mostly shot well but i had a couple rounds that were feeding improperly and they two had huge gouge that deformed the sidewall of the case.  The round obviously failed to feed and the bolt jammed.  I then got frustrated and did a rapid fire of 10 rounds right at the end of my session and it worked great and as accurate as I expect so far.

I haven't had enough time to play around and they were handloads so I don't read too much into that.  When I first started loading my rounds tended to corrode (until I learned to load with gloves to keep finger oils off the cases and to polish the brass more thoroughly).  Sometimes I even put a little Rem Oil on the cases when I am done for long term storage in case I don't shoot them for a while.

I don't regret at all buying a Huldra even though I do prefer Stainless 223 Wylde 1/8 Twist barrels.  For a piston upper I think it was a good priced product and would not hesitate to recommend right now.  Plus Fleet Farm (Huldra's exclusive dealer as far as I understand)  is about my favorite store around.  Its almost impossible to go there and not spend at least $100.

Did get to see a Huldra rifle run in a 5 day carbine class and it had not one problem.  The class had guns running hot and hard and the Huldra did not fail.

I thought I'd be fair and give an update on my feeding issues I had with firing my Huldra.  I switched magazines and it ran flawlessly.  I was using a Gen 1 20rd PMAG and switched to an Elander 30rd, the best steel mag I have ever seen.   The same feed ramp marks I had seen on my rounds before also have appeared on other ARs particularlywith hot loads.

So far I am very impressed with my Huldra upper and I look forward to seeing how it prints at longer ranges this summer when the outdoor range I go to is open to the public.  Man I really need to find a long range club to join or an area I can really put my ARs to the test.

So if you live I the South and want a Huldra upper my options are?

A lower with the Huldra on it would be awesome!

Huldra has an extensive test of their 5.45 on youtube.  It's impressive.  I have an Adams 5.45 and can attest to it being good.

I have ran my Adams Arms midlength upper through a few 3 gun matches and it has run perfect and people always ask question on it when they notice its a piston.

Ive been trying to buy a 5.45 upper from them for a year now and wont compromise and get anything else if that says anything.

I finally got to the range with my Hulda carbine upper. And I must say I am impressed. I ran about 120 rounds through it and did not have any issues. I had one failure to feed and that was magazine related. I wasn't shooting for accuracy but I could keep rounds in and around a 6" target at a 100 yards with a Valada Red dot. So far so good. I'll keep you all posted.

Are they just not producing them? I'd like on of these as well but no Fleet Farms in my area and not available online.

Once we catch up, we hope to resume online sales again soon.  I wish I had a date but with the market the way it is, best I can say is soon.  We are starting to get some items back in stock at the stores so there is progress .

Thanks for the support guys!

Some of us builders and shooters have been patient but need to practice for upcoming tactical shoots.
Within the last week two online sellers with real-time inventories sold the Mid Adams Arms conversion kit..
I "had to have it" and was one of the lucky 80 or so souls that got delivery(stock depleted in only a hour or so as people found out.
This does not mean I'm no longer waiting for the EVO's to hit the markets again..I am..

I have a question though,  will Huldra run any accuracy comparisons between their kits or uppers vs a DI gun?

From my limited exposure the piston guns seem to rule our local tactical games but I don't see them on the long range benches.

Yeah we will do some accuracy videos in the future. We also have a sister DI line of rifles too so we are fans of both. The reality is both have their pros and cons and each operating system is similar but different. I no longer bekeive a piston rifle "has to" be more inaccurate just because of the piston. I've heard the arguments, harmonics, mass, etc etc but I've seen piston guns really shoot and DI guns not. There is more to it then just the piston. But short answer, yes we plan on some head to head matches if you will.
Thanks, Dave

I think its mostly because its an uknown at this point and benchrest shooters are very hesitant to adopt a new technology that MIGHT affect their accuracy.

Also benchrest shooters are less sensitive to dirty/hot chambers as they are already mindful of keeping a steady shot pace to not heat their barrel up too much.  I just really don't see the benefit of combing a piston with a rifle length stainless barrel that you aren't going to shoot very much in comparison to tactical training at a carbine course.

That being said, I do like my Huldra 16" Midlength and wouldn't hesitate to buy one again if I was in the market for a 1/7" 5.56 16" upper however I won't be putting a piston when I build my benchrest upper.   For me a quality barrel,  rifle length gas system, free float hand-guard + Young MFG national match BCG is about as good as it gets.  When I had this setup with a RRA 223 Wylde upper it was sick.  Sadly I was out of a job and figured I would buy a new one when I had a job again.

Well then Oweblamer and the Commucrats defrauding the public in November and Sandy Hook happened.  I anticipated neither, both are equally disgusting and as horrible as a mass shooting is, the election will by far kill more people and destroy infinitely more lives as if history of the policies that will be enacted proves.

OK well now that little sidetrack rant is done,  we all know the story of why the market is crazy.  It leaves me wanting to rebuild my benchrest upper now but obviously it being difficult to.  Thankfully I picked up a Huldra mid length around 3-4 days after Sandy hook.  This was after coming very close to getting it at FF 2 weeks before.  Thankfully I got mine 1-2 days before the entire FF store and Cabelas were all stripped of all AR/AK related items.
