I just saw an ad for a Ruger AR.

Any thoughts?  It seems like a new market expansion, or have i just been off the ball for a long time?

they have been around for a couple years
they are piston driven
so if you check in this area...

you should find out a ton more about them

Yep, pissed-in driven. At least they didn't screw up the 1911.

They do seem fairly decent though. Some say they don't wanna run steel.

Been out a while, probably well made and solid but clunky as are most rugers They look nice, piss on the piston though......and the price

I have one, and I love it. Put about 1,000 rounds through it so far, no malfunctions whatsoever with brass and steel cased stuff (about half and half of each). I've read on here about a couple guys having issues, but mine has been good to go.

Have a 556E and it is a tack driver that has given me zero problems. I paid 1k for it, and yeah the DI guys always complain about piston AR's
Here is a pic of it with my Sig 556

completely false, I have well over 1500 through my SR556E, only had it for about 5 months, not one malfunction, eat steel as well as brass any day of the week and does it a lot cleaner than any DI AR

I will say this about them: they're one of the heaviest ARs I've held but if weight isn't a concern (and it may play in its favor for range use) then I say go for it.

Edit: Troy BUIS and free float standard? Yes please.

Been using steel 99% of the time and no issues so far.

You've been off the ball a long time for sure.  Ruger decided not to market another copy of the AR15 especially with all the current players in the market.  It seems like everyone and their mom is making one now.  So they decided to capitalize on the emerging piston AR market which doesn't have as many established players.  Ruger also makes one of the better systems IMO.

Factory flash hider. You can remove it and replace it with something else.

Have had mine since January with over 2.5K rounds through it.  500 rounds of Wolf with no failures.  Added giselie trigger, mag pul pieces and AAC breakout suppressor mount, and rifle runs mighty fine!  Just added a Holo sight for social work and the rifle is now good to go for what I will use it for.

I bought mine shortly after Ruger first made them available.    So far its been 100% reliable.  I don't have an exact round count, but it's approx 900-1100 rounds.  I don't get to use it as often as I would like.
