I recently picked up a used l.w. 5.56 10.5 upper on EE. Finally got to take it out today and ran in to some trouble. It will fire and eject the spent casing but, not always seat the next shell.  At least one that I saw didnt seat do to a blown primer from the spent shell before it.  It would fire 2-3 shots then jam. Out of 20 rds I have 6 with blown primers.  Also, it didnt lock the bolt back. Any help on how to fix this??
Current set up
L.w. 5.56 10.5 upper with 2 pc carrier
Cmmg lower (used with previous upper no problem)
Standard carbine spring
St-t2 buffer
Ammo was federal xm193 new within the last year

All of my LWRCs have come with a heavier H2 buffer.  You may want to barrow one from a friend and try that out.  The buffer is key with piston guns and if using the wrong weight, it could be cycling improperly.   The blown primers isn't caused by the buffer, but that seems to be a lot of blown primers per batch of ammo.   Hopefully it isn't a sign of overpressure.  I will let some others comment on that.

Make sure your chamber is very clean.  Scrub the hell out of the chamber with a chamber brush and clean the barrel really good.  It could have some fouling in there that is causing overpressure.

I came home cleaned the chamber and barrel. I then grabbed 30rds of xm855 went back out and it functioned flawlessly. So I am thinking either bad ammo or dirty chamber. But I will wait to see if others confirm this.

Ammo loaded to hot probably.

About a year ago a couple batches of Federal XM193 was having many reported blown primers.

You seem to have some of that ammo, at least it is worth considering being that exact ammo has that exact problem.

I suggest you try another brand of ammo before you consider the gun as the problem!!

Take down the lot number of that ammo and google it. I bet there might be something out there about it.

I have seen this a lot before. I would sell it and buy another brand.

Of ammo? Or are you suggesting that he sell the upper based on a mag full of blown primers? Surely not...

Sounds like a bad batch of ammo to me - I'd be very interested to hear how that ammo continues to perform..but if it's really that hot then it might be better not to keep shooting it?

I'm sure it must be the XM193, or the buffer, or the lower.  It could never be the LWRC.

You could post about a dpms and blown primers and I would look at the ammo first.  Don't get your piston war panties on or anything.

I don't have the war shorts on brother.

I got nothing against LWRC or pistons in general.

I didn't get the lot numbers off the Federal XM193 but, I had a friend who's Noveske 10.5 and SR15 were popping primers like crazy..One got lodged in the gas key and rendered the rifle inoperable in his Noveske and in the SR15, one made it's way into the FCG..

OP, glad to see the rifle is working with different ammo. Report back after you give it another run..I have two LWRC's and haven't had an issue to date. On both of them, I am using a H2 buffer that was standard from the factory..
