i am debating building a 7.5 left hand sbr. i had a question about gas pistons. i want the adams arms 7.5 upper that has a piston system and eventually put a LH stag upper and a LH stag bolt carrier in it. if i get this piece could i put that on the stag BCG and have it run the piston system?

i had read some about some issues with the left hand BCG in non-stag barrels but it seems they work just fine with these. any other input on piston systems for a left hand would be appreciated.

i have a stag 2tl and love it. i realize that with the piston system i wont have gas in my face and could use a right handed one without issue. my plan is to get one and eventually convert it. i want it to be left handed just so that operation is the same for clearing malfunctions. not a huge problem to have to styles for identifying but i want consistency.

thanks for any info!

RRA makes a complete LH rifle. As well as stag. Considering you are goofy handed your ultimate rifle will made of parts.

I'm left handed and a Gunsmith.     If I were you I'd skip on the left hand idea.  What are you going to do when your bolt breaks because it will?

No need for a left handed AR15.   Hell I rock the AK47 all the time and it's "right handed" but actually really good with a lefty because of the recip bolt on the right side.

Save your penny's!  Be glad to help you find a rifle though if you want :)

You can buy the Adams retro kit to convert a left handed system to gas piston.

The whole idea behind this rifle:

Was to be as left handed friendly as possible. I tend to like to think I did a pretty good job.

Why would you let the bolt  breaking be a deciding factor? Because if the right hand breaks you will still have to get a new one.

I agree with roguehkmp5,
Stick with a standard upper and use the money you were gonna spend on that lefty upper to buy a billet ambi lower.  I’m a lefty, I run a 10,5” SBR with an AAC ranger 2 full time. Gas IS an issue with short barrel rifles suppressed. Not bad at all without the can. As far as pistons go, I prefer Osprey defense. The reason is simple, if you had to switch back to gas, its cake. Drive out the gas block pin, remove OPS kit, drop out the BCG. Insert DI BCG, gas tube, drive pin back in. Done deal, no permanent mods to stock upper.
Piston kits all have pros and cons with fellas on both sides arguing the benefits and letdowns of both systems. If I was right handed, no SBR, no can, I would stick with the proven DI design. But as a lefty, that does like SBR’s and cans, the Osprey kit is a huge improvement! If you have the money, invest in a Rainier Arms Raptor ambi charging handle and the Troy ambi mag release, all helpful lefty upgrades. And don’t forget NiB coated internal parts like trigger group and BCG. Makes cleaning easier.

thanks everyone for the info. ar18 specifically! i think for now i will just stick with the right handed version and eventually convert the bolt and upper to left handed. when i do it and i will just sell the right handed left overs. should help offset the cost enough to make it worthwhile.

in terms of parts breaking i usually keep a spare bolt carrier anyway. they arent common but ive never had any issue ordering one from stag. they seem to have them in stock all the time and its not much more than the standard.

BrickWurX i have the troy ambi release and really like it. i use a standard charging handle with a ambi latch. it was cheap (about 25$) and it fits how i use the handle (pinching my index finger and thumb on the right notch of the handle)

i m waiting on my paper work for a YHM can. wait is sooo long. im making the sbr as a pistol until the paper work comes through for it to be an sbr.

thanks again for the replies!

Because it's a hell of a lot easier to find a RH bolt to replace it with.

Just my .02 but I'd keep them as spares just in case. A working righty gun is better than no gun.
