I recently acquired an LMT MRP CQBPS16 (how are you doing with the acronyms so far? lol) and am looking for suggestions for accessories for the rifle. I am looking at the following, which are subject to change.

Magpul MS3 Single Point Sling
Magpul Pmags
Magpul AFG or AFG2

I need some advice on how to tackle the fact that the castle nut and the buffer tube plate are peened together, and so removing the castle nut would be a problem if I want to use a one-point sling with the rifle. This is with consideration to the fact that most adapters require the removal of the castle nut and the replacement of the buffer tube plate.

Also, is there anything better than a Pmag without going over $15?

And does anyone have an AFG? If so, thoughts?

Thanks!

Don't unstake the castle nut if you don't absolutely need to and have all the proper tools. I trashed a DD tube because I couldn't wait a day to swap out for a UBR (which I later ditched).

There are several companies that make clamp on single point adapters so you don't have to take the buffer tube off. Midwest industries comes to mind.

PMags are probably the best mags on the market. You can also find them slightly cheaper than $15 if you look around. However, USGI aluminum mags work great.

AFG... it really was designed for a specific type of shooting style. I wouldn't bother with it unless you're familiar with that type of shooting and you have some experience and feel thats exactly what you need. Many people feel it's a waste of cash. I even shoot support hand farther out and am still not sold on it.

Thanks! I'll be sure to check out Midwest.

I have the LMT MRP CQB 12" piston.  I use the AFG2 along with a bunch of XTM panels.  I stippled all the panels and the AFG2 which looks and feels awesome.  Ive been debating on whether or not to keep the Sopmod or go to a UBR? or keep the Ergo grip or go with a MIAD. I use the MIAD and an ACS on my other AR. The sling attachment I use on my other build is the Troy Pro Grade Rifle Receiver Sling Adapter.  As far as mags go I only have 30rnd pmags, surefire 60rnd mags, or Beta mags.  I think for the LMT Im going to run a redi-mag system with the pmags.  What are you using for optics?

I would keep the sopmod stock if I were you. The SOPMOD stock was specifically designed for the US Navy SEALs. I don't know if you've ever tried making the thing rattle like some of the standard 6-point adjustable stocks, but it won't happen. Also, that cheek weld is better than any other AR stock will provide. Plus it'll save you some money, more money for more ammo :D

I'm not going for optics right now, I need to get my iron sights zeroed and get used to a clean-top config.

I have tried moving around the Sopmod and there is absolutely no play.  Its even a little stiff to slide and adjust length.  did you get the standard LMT trigger or the dual stage?

I have the standard one-stage trigger, though if I had the money right now I'd get the two-stage in a heartbeat.

I have the standard as well.  I am thinking about going with a Geissele but not sure which one yet.  Im thinking between the SSA, SSA-E, S3G

Here is my LMT MRP Piston 12" barbie rifle set up for nighttime use.  The stock is my favorite - an old M93B magpul.  Very stable and solid.  Consistent cheek weld surface.  Plenty adjustable for LOP.  Other accessories are  LDI OTAL Class 1 IR laser, Gemtech M4-02, Aimpoint T1, Surefire Vampire, all on SR07 Dual switch.  Works great with weapon or helmet mounted PVS-14.  I find that while the piston gun does still get dirty from the suppressor, it stays much cleaner for much longer than my DI guns.  Properly lubed either is fine.

On your questions -
MS3 sling - great kit.  I really like mine.  I use it both single and two point modes depending on application.  Out in field hunting, 2 pt.  Inside structures - 1 pt.
PMags - by far my favorite all around mag.  Very seldom find one that doesn't work the first time, every time.  Aluminum GI mags also are fine but not as consistent as PMag.  As with all mags, number them and range test before serious use.
Redi Mag system - love it for a 1st out HD or truck gun.  Lets you keep 60 rounds in a compact footprint.  Does make the rifle much heavier.  When hunting, I just keep the 1 mag in the gun.
Magpul - AFG - Tried it but didn't care for it.  Didn't do anything for me as far as support and took up space/weight on the rail.  It is in my unused box now.

Very nice! I'm trying to keep my electronic attachments to a minimum, just because the chance of a battery being dead when I need it most seems to be very high. That, and money is an issue at the moment, so I'll be holding off on getting any attachments for a month or two. Thanks for the tips.

If you buy an Aimpoint, you won't have to worry about dead batteries all but once every 4-8 years.   Most models have up to five years of battery life when left on in the middle brightness setting.   So to be safe, replace the battery every three years, and you will never even get remotely close to having the optic fail you.   Also, that is why you have back up iron sights.  If something happened to your optic, you should still be able to shoot and shoot well with irons.

I'll be sure to keep that in mind. Right now, I just don't have the money for an optic :p
