Yes Melvin, I can't see any of your pictures any more either.  (Not just this thread.)

For now....

On a related note; Ruger has removed most of the 6.8 offerings from their website.  The Mini-14 and SR-556 6.8 are no longer a standard item.  Ruger uppers are still available in 6.8 for the time being.

That's not good.  I know a lot of people thought that adopting the SPCI chamber isue was a screw up by Ruger but I wouold rather see some 6.8 offering from them than none.  Is 6.8 fading?  I like mine even if it is the older chamber.

Have an idea why anyone?  I was thinking about picking an upper up in 6.8 by ruger in the next couple months

the are rereleasing them with improved chamber and that is why they pulled them.  Ruger used sammi 1 and are moving to sammi 2.

I had no idea pws made 6.8.  I doubt the 6.8 community does as well.  It's the second most popular ammo for the AR platform so I have say, it's got to be marketing.

Oh man….  That is an exhausting issue that will just reopen a huge can of worms  and distract this thread.    In  a nutshell….    SPC-I is the approved chamber so that is what Ruger and some others have adopted.  SPC-II is an improved chamber that most 6.8 folks like better and is suitable for use with “better” higher power ammo and reloads.  Some makers have adopted the improved chamber.  I really don’t want to get into the mess about Ruger and why it picked the older chamber as it just stirs the pot.  I’m hoping that Ruger isn’t pulling out of 6.8 because of the harsh reception they got for not picking the “correct” chamber.  All 6.8 will suffer if large makers start shedding their 6.8 offerings.

The SPCII has a longer throat than the SAAMI chamber,

There are many reasons for the "death" of the 6.8.  Lack of ammo is probably the biggest followed by expensive magazines and lack of standardization in the industry.  Hell.  We can't even get ammo makers to standardize on small or large rifle primers.  How can we expect them to pick something as complicated as a chamber?

Too bad, as I think the 6.8 is a good cartridge.

oh this is funny melvin, can you talk more out of your a$$....lol

for the record, pws didn't even advertise on their site a 6.8.  Either you are trying to stir the pot or are pretty foolish with respects to the 6.8.

Ruger's adopting the SPCII chamber?  Maybe they're adopting the Barrett chamber? I'd like more info on this. How did you come by this info?

I talked to the fine folks from Ruger yesterday at the media day and was told they were dropping 6.8 from the catalog due to lack of sales. They mentioned nothing about going to an alternate chamber.

I'm not trying to start any shit, and I have been up about 20 hours w/o sleep, so please excuse me......but

Ruger may be dropping the 6.8
But I watched all of the videos from shot show, and there were at least 2 manufacturer's that are adding the 6.8 to their line up this year.  I don't remember the company's, but definitely 2.
If Ruger & PWS drop the 6.8, it doesn't mean the 6.8 is dead.
It would be interesting to see how many units Ruger sold in 6.8.
It has a large enough following to keep living.

This 300 blackout/whisper/wt/cocka-doodle-doo wave will die down after the new wears off it.

This may all be true but the OP's thread does show some good observations.  I just got a Ruger 6.8 recently and like it despite it's shortcomings.  However, in my neck of the woods getting anything but a box or two of Horneday ammo at a local store is a no go.  Some places don't even know what 6.8SPC is!  When I go to shoot the gun about 3/4 of the people don't know what 6.8 is.  To have a major gun maker drop the caliber is not going to help this any.  From what I can see it is still a fringe cartage that probably will outlast most of the others - probably will survive....  (OK, maybe fringe isn't the correct term but I like the cartridge and hope it will grow in popularity)  The smaller gun makers seem to be the ones in the best position to dive into 6.8 successfully until the chamber issues get resolved.  I also think that once the military turned away from 6.8 the civilian interest was bound to lose some steam.   I hope time proves me wrong but the personal attack on the OP by Mr NJ realy shits up this thread.    By the way, your observations are equaly valid to those of the OP's in IMHO.

Now we just need to get more people to buy 6.8 guns so more stores will carry the ammo that is already available.  I'm wunderring if 6.8 is more of a "regional" cartridge?  In the northeast it does not seem to be verry visible.  Too bad 'cause it should be perfect for deer hunting around here.

You may be right as most of the 68 guys seem to be out west and in the south given the hunting and of course, hog issues.  In NJ, we can't hunt with rifles unless black powder so 6.8 would be truly niche or if you hunt out of state.  I think it's ok in NY, PA, and NE however.
