I posted this in the wrong topic earlier and it got locked, so I hope someone can answer this over here. I am interested in either the Adams Arms, base mid length carbine or the base model carbine upper. Is the only difference the length of the fore grip and piston? If so what would be the advantage of having one over the other?
Thanks in advance Scott |

The only diffrence is the location of the gasblock on the the barrel. The midlength usually works better. The farther away the gas block the longer the rail usually.
from Adams Arms F.A.Q. Q. How do I know which length system to buy? A. Our system comes in 4 lengths: pistol, carbine, midlength, and rifle. The most common listed measurements for these are: pistol – 4”, carbine – 7”, midlength – 9”, and rifle – 12”. These measurements can be found by measuring the distance between the front of the upper receiver and the shoulder where the gas block sits. These measurements are not exact but are rounded to the nearest inch for ease of terminology and for quad rail compatibilty. You can get a more accurate measurement by measuring the barrel extention in the upper receiver and the back of the gas block, where the shoulder starts on the barrel. visit www.Adamsarms.net for more info. |

Cool! Thanks for the info. I like the looks of the midlength, plus I have big hands so a little more realestate to hang onto up front might be better. I have an Adams Arms base mid-length. Just be aware that the barrel is a medium contour so it will be somewhat front-heavy if you use a carbine stock. With an A2 stock, however, it balances quite nicely. I plan on adding some glass to mine and letting it evolve into a distance shooter 200-400 yards...... |

Thanks. I ended up getting the base carbine last night. I'll throw up some pics when it gets here...Now I need to decide on a sling, optics, a case, some rails etc. etc..... You will like it. Regarding weight, the basic carbine feels identical to M4 style DI rifle. Same balance point as my 6920, BCM, BM, etc...carbines. Very light. Center of gravity is just slightly to stock end. Enjoy |

Is there anything I need to do before I go blast some ammo? Just got it, put a little oil on it and put it together http://i651.photobucket.com/albums/uu237/azhubcap/IMG_20110504_165006.jpg |

Both were live rounds, don't remember I think it was about half way through the mag. I bought 4 new magpul mags, I don't remember which mag did it. Next outing if it does it again I'll mark the mag that does it, and see if the others do it. Maybe that will narrow it down. Other than the double feed it shoots great. Adams Arms base carbine upper, and a Plum Crazy lower.
Thanks for the reply Scott |
