Is there a comparison somewhere on the retro fit kits.
I googled it and ran the search here but as usual if you dont know what your looking for its pretty hard to search for it.

TIA

No one has really done it yet.  You will find them sometimes between X and Y brands, but not across the entire field, and very little actual field testing as well.

LMT is probably at the top.  It is actually used by federal agencies. Edit: I meant to say LWRC not LMT

If you poke around you will find a bunch of different answers.

Honestly it depends on what you are doing.  If you are converting a firearm it might be better to go with Osprey.   If you are building it yourself, Adam Arms gets a bunch of nods.

If you are purchasing, you have LMT, PWS, and other good manufactures out there.  Poke around this forum abit and you will find more information.

I am unaware of any Federal Agency using LMT piston guns, the DEA has been using LWRCs for yeas with great results.

Sorry you are correct.  LWRC.

LMT DI gun is being used by the brits.

My fault.

When it comes to retrofits, the tiers in pricing is usually what separates them.  Osprey and AA get a lot of love here.  People who don't want to remove their FSB typically go with Osprey while the others go with AA.  ARES and TNW seem more for those trying to save money.  The disparity in cost is decreasing though.  All the ones mentioned are available between $200-300.

I'd like to see someone do a shoot out with different kits.

Ive got a spare stripped lower that Ive had laying around for about 3 yrs now..... I think I have a stripped upper too but I havent checked the safe too see if Im dreaming... anyway I ran across a link to Black Hole Barrels
http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=7&f=22&t=794295
and thought I would build an upper and in looking at prices its really not that much difference between good BCG, FSB, gas tube, handgard  than buying a piston system.
So I started looking at Piston systems and so far it seems like ive read a little and dont know much more than I did when I started, which is why I posted the question....

Thanks for the answers.

I see.  The reason why I use AA over the others is because I've always put together my own uppers.  I don't have the tools to pin an FSB, so the AA clamp on block has served me well.

I have had a Ares on mine since they came out. I have 3-4K through it now and have never had a hiccup with it. I have shot every kind of ammo I could get through it also. My next kit though will probably be a AA. Because you can buy spare parts for it.

If you are going to stretch "Federal Agency" to include SOCOM, which would more appropriately be classed as "Armed Forces", the list would expland considerably.

Talked to an FBI friend and they are about to transition to something.  He said they are getting rid of the MP5s.  The "about" is my word not his, and they will turn in the Colts and RRA guns.  So I don't know what they will get.  Seems like they would get something....

Hello Larry, I can speak for BHW barrels, they are a SUPERB choice, none better for the price...

I just ordered a AA rifle piston system for my 22" BHW barreled 6.5mm Patriot Combat Cartridge (6.5 PCC) and can't wait to get it...

I plan to get all my barrels from them from now on...

We are getting near Grendel ballistics from the 18" BHW test barrel w/ the 223 based parent case...

I hope I made a good decision by ordering the Adams Arms kit, any thoughts by AA Piston owners ?

I have one and I am very happy with it with no problems although I am not a "high round" shooter. I would guess that I have about 750 rds. through it since conversion.

It is on an older Bushmaster (2002 16" HB)
