So as I'm wrapping up my AR build I had to get a pistol grip. So it arrived today I put it on and I saw something that might be a problem. The hole that was drilled through the grip wasn't lining up with the hole on my lower and as I screwed it in there is a gap about 2 mm. It's to the point where you can see the spring that applies pressure on the safety detent and I'm concerned that water or some moisture might get in there and cause rust in time. Is there a way I can fix this myself or should I give the company I got it from a call?

Trying to keep my AR project under wraps until it's done because I've put $5,000 - $6,000 or so into this AR so it's really really really nice.

But this is that gap I was talking about:

It's about 1mm and you can see the spring holding the detent for the safety.

They think it might be a manufacturing defect with th grip so I'm getting a new one for free. I've put $5,000 - $6,000 or so into this build might be less but I don't have receipts to give you an exact price right now but it might be an over estimation so take it with a grain of salt. Once I finally affix everything on and get pics I will post everything I got.

Also that includes the purchase price of the gun which was $1950 or so.

It's definitely a manufacturing defect.  I know who Mako is, they don't exactly make top end stuff.  It's serviceable, but you're going to run into problems occasionally, like you did.  If you've put that much money into the gun, why skimp on the pistol grip?  Get something a bit better, MagPul, Tango Down, Stark, Troy, Ergo, etc.

I don't know why I didn't think of that but I didn't. I already took it to the range and I really like the grip but I'm looking for top of the line stuff for my AR so.
