Did they ship you a modified top handguard that didn't have a heat shield? |

Cool. I'm not complaining, it seems like they're confident that the system runs very cool/clean. The overall design is indeed superior to the other systems I've seen and used. I know a lot of ARFCOM members like the AA over the CMMG and now I see why! I don't think it's anything more than the heatshield would be in the way of the op rod/piston and there really was no way to leave it in. The barrel still gets hot from shooting, but since the majority of your hand is on the lower handguard section it only makes so much difference. What I don't like and never did about some polymer handguards is the looseness. Sometimes they can be a tight fit and sometimes not. Mine from Adams are not. I'm probably going to replace them with either a railed handguard or Magpul MOE handguards. Magpul was suppose to be making MOE handguards there were designed to better fit around piston systems I thought, but I have yet to see any. |

I had the same question and got an answer from AA, here it is in it's entirety:
The top handguard is not suppose to have a heat shield in it. Since there is no longer a gas tube carrying hot gases down the length of the barrel, there is no longer a need for it and it gets in the way of the drive rod. If you have any other questions feel free to call or email and we'll help anyway we can. Thank you, John Humphrey Sales and Marketing |
