I came home tonight to find a bonanza of goodies...UPS left 52lbs of ammo on the front step and USPS left a Priority Mail envelope which contained a new trigger group for my SR556.

I installed the new trigger, springs and hammer then proceeded to function check.  So, here's the question.  When I pull the trigger (which is very crisp with no creep BTW) and hold it back, if I pull the charging handle it will reset the trigger and fire with nearly no pressure.  I think under recoil it could go into an auto cycle.  What to do?  The trigger is a JP unit that's advertised as a 4lb pull weight.

^ congrats on the SR556.   I have the Chip McCormick and so far no issues.  Please keep us informed on what your experiences are with your trigger. I suggest to double check your install, your trigger should require you to fully release it and depress again to release that hammer.  Good luck and hope you enjoy your new SR556 as much as I have mine.

Isn't the JP trigger adjustable?  If so, back it off some.   As long as the hammer stays back when you charge the gun while pulling the trigger, you are not breaking any ATF rules.   A light trigger is dangerous, so you will want to get the trigger adjusted to 4-5 pounds.

Let us know how you make out.

I may have been mistaken when I called it a JP unit. There aren't any adjustment screws.  The trigger components came in a plastic bag marked JPS from Brownell's, I didn't buy it from Brownells - I bought from an individual that was highly recommended on the forum.  He offers 4lb, 3lb and 2.5lb kits.  I opted for the 4lb.

I took the SR556 to range today.  First I loaded a single round and removed the magazine.  I fired the rifle and the trigger reset normally, I dry fired it to be sure.  Then I put two rounds in the magazine, again no problem.  I went to a full magazine, then proceeded to send 150 trouble free rounds down range.  I love the new trigger, no perceptible creep.  Just pressure then bang!
