I had been looking at purchasing an ar15 for a while and last month was in one of my local guns shops and they had a lightly used bushy piston at a good price. I picked it up kindof on a whim, not knowing a whole lot about the specific model.  I was told that the original purchaser barely used it and it looks that way.  Its a real piston ar, not a kit. Does anyone know what bushmaster has done if anything to help reduce carrier tilt? I dont see much wear at all in the buffer tube nore on the carrier but im considering purchasing an anti tilt buffer from seth anyways.  since i was not the original purchaser i dont know how many rounds are through it, but i want to prevent wear before it even starts.

The carbine you have is based on POFs older design. Bushmaster buys the parts for the piston system from POF, op rod, gas block, pistol, and plug.

The upper is standard bushmaster. Your configuration is a 16 carbine with M4 profile barrel, flat top, etc., correct?

Bushmaster also makes a conversion kit "Adams arms?"

On the dedicated piston upper we are assumong you have it uses a carrier with intergral strike plate, Sadly the carrier group doesn't have the plating process factory POFs have, overall the Bushmaster piston carbine is KISS and a handy piston driven carbine. Mine stays 100% clean in the receiver, no smoke at all near the shooters face and the recoil is a bit more pronounced than standard DI.

Carrier tilt has not been addressed in this model, the carrier appears to be standard width at the rear. Despite that I have no ideas if others are having issues, hopefully they'll chime in if so.

Does the inside of your buffer tube look like there is friction/scarring, if not shoot it and check periodically. it's more of a long term wear issue as long as function is not affected as in mine.

Hope that helps, good luck.

I have a bushmaster hbar with the conversion I think mine is Ares, I have shot it alot with no malfunctions and no carrier tilt wear. Mine has less recoil than my 6920 and my lmt.

You will like it. I've had mine for almost three years no issues. The bolt pin has worn a small notch near the ejection port, which has not gotten any bigger as of yet. I've been told that this ware is normal on Bush GP's and should not be a problem. I keep an eye on everything as a rule anyway.

Make sure you go to BM's web site and download all the safety, and related documents for the GP, they're not included with this rifle when purchased new (this pissed me off).

Pay attention on which way you place the piston on installation, one way is for normal operation, the other is when used with a suppressor.

Other than that make sure you have plenty of ammo, you'll run through it quick. It's the most accurate 16 inch 15 I've owned and will eat anything you feed it!
