I’ve heard the ATF does not like simulated third holes, even if it’s not actually a hole. Could he have gotten jammed up for something ridiculous like engraving a look-a-like sear pin?

I dont think you know how this works. There is no "unscathed".  The best he can hope for is only that the legal fees bankrupt him.

They always say its improved.  Its never improved.  Just new with corners cut.

ETA: John at RetroArms isn't lying on anything.  He is straightforward and honest.  Does great work too.

Never worked with Braceman but I have seen his work.  He is extremely talented.  Hopefully he makes it through this without the gloryholers bankrupting him.

Likely enough the ATF had a rat get some work done on an 80% then the ATF milled it out to make a MG. “See, look what he did!”

I doubt that would be the case since the Troy retro gun had an engraved circle to look like a sear pin too.  Then again, it’s the ATF so anything that makes zero sense is possible.

If its a fake third hole - that is so ridiculous -  What is difficult for me is how the ATF inconsistently enforces rules - A simulated third hole seemingly is a non-issue compared to someone in possession of a Glock switch.  My Son is a police officer and in his former jurisdiction Glock switches were of course confiscated and the ATF contacted where they say just have it destroyed.  The beholder is usually given some non-felony charge.

Alabama created a new state law banning Glock switches in part because the ATF didn't enforce the federal law on machine guns.

Criminal activities  catching individuals with Unregistered machineguns going uncharged vs non-violent  un-intnetntional offenders making a non-machinegun  just really seems like an agency in need of re-calibration - just an opinion.

Face it, it doesnt have to be illegal for the aft to ruin his life, we've seen this
over and over, and yes, even with the fake engraved sear hole. It could be
the fantastic overreach that aft is widely known for. Such as this case here.

This agency that runs roughshod over the law, the constitution, and citizens rights needs to be visited by a DOGE team soon. Agents who go along with their made up reasons for busts under color of law when the law doesnt exist should be sued right along with the government who allows this ridiculous outfit to continue shenanigans. NOT gonna happen anymore, according to AG Bondi, but here we are.

Almost seems like there might be a contingent of rogue agents within the aft defying the new leadership.

Even if he was doing that, which is a very generous assumption considering the ATF's overall lack of expertise and history of credibility issues, we need to acknowledge at some point that sending a goon platoon to cause tens of thousands of dollars in property damage while his wife and kids were home and he was not is an egregiously disproportionate and inappropriate response to something that would likely have been resolved by a cease and desist letter.

100% true, but that's not going to be any fun for the agents is it?

Let me get this straight, Braceman is receiving already milled 80% lowers and engraving them?

Then directly shipping them back to the owner?

Without an FFL involved?

At what point does an 80% lower become a firearm?

The bigger discussion that needs to be had is that this kind of thing is specifically what the founders who were opposed to a standing army had in mind. Establishing Federal Law Enforcement Agencies with all the trappings of a high end contemporary military-to include SOF- and then papering over it by labeling them "law enforcement" while sending them to raid Americans' homes is tantamount to state sponsored terrorism.

It's difficult to get a straight answer from an organization that has dropped cases against people because they stood to lose when it was argued that the AR-15 doesn't have a receiver as defined by the GCA.

Somewhere after drilling the pin holes and/or milling the FCG pocket it becomes a receiver. Engravings on the side have nothing to do with it.

Where are you getting that he was receiving completed 80%s?

My WAG it’s going to be the weld jobs and once a machine gun always a machine gun policy. Don’t agree but it’s happened before with de milled M14 chunks. Even though they weren’t re welded as fa M14’s fatf said they were still machine guns since they were originally machine guns.

So to recap, (I know nothing beyond this thread)
A good dude who doesn't have an FFL and isn't making guns, just got raided by the ATF.  Complete with guns-drawn flash-bang level entry harassing and traumatizing his family, and they went so far as to dig up his back yard.  Seriously - that shit needs to stop.  We do that when raiding an ISIS house with hostages.  But this as standard practice, has got to stop.

Anyway, from statements so far, the guys business practices and known-behavior is inconsistent with him being one to overtly be violating the law.  Though as they say, you never really know.  But it's causing question and some speculation (Because right now, that's all we can do).  Best speculation so far is at one time he was marking receivers or 80%'s or whatever, where to drill the 3rd hole.  There is case-law of people going to jail for making sheet-metal with such markings, so maybe(?).

Most interesting - guy once did business with Larry Vickers, who's personal behavior and ethos IS consistent with someone playing games to violate the law.   And it is well known and documented Vickers turned in everyone everywhere for everything for his own leniency.  Which he got.  Meaning ATF valued the list of names, and likely went to work setting up plans to pursue.  And now this guy just got FlashBanged.   So you're darned right I'm suspicious of that.   And no - LV gets no benefit-of-the-doubt from me on this; Fuck that Guy - it has to be proven he wasn't involved at this point, as far as I'm concerned.  That guy created a cascade of events he knew damned well he shouldn't be doing - some of which in violation of US National security with an Enemy Nation.  And from that fall-out, fucked over a lot of people.  Again: Fuck that Guy, and to all the LV sycophants (his entire ethos and network model) - you don't need to be LV' bitch to have worth, you can do it.

And while I'm pissing people off, the 80% topic is the biggest rabbit hole of a lie that we've all deluded ourselves about.  It's not cheaper, it's not better quality, and it's so very very not below the radar.  It's flying your plane in an unusual manner at what you think is below radar.  You're not below the radar - you're the brightest spot on the radar.  Dangerous game for no reward, and the first people ATF likes to visit.

I hope this comes of nothing and dude walks.  I hope some agents get fired and ATF has to pay restitution in fact.   His best odds right now are the DA under Bondi follows instructions and just drops the case.  Remember, ATF can't actually put you in prison.  That takes a DA willing to take the case and invest the time to pursue it.  My advice to Braceman is to drag this out as long as possible, and agree to and admit NOTHING.  Any DA will take an easy confession dropped in his lap.  So don't give him one.  Make him invest the resources and court time, while under Trump/Bondi.  Especially if this really is a bullshit 80% and markings raid.

If it's more then that, well I guess we'll see.
