Quick Question. Did they use silver springs or black springs for the ejection port cover? I have both of them in my pile and I forgot which I pulled from a USGI Upper.

I always tended to pick out the dark ones for replacements on Service Rifles, but silver ones were coming out of the mil supply system as well. In fact, at one point, all I had were silver ones...

I don't know about retro ones but I've only ever seen silver-ish. Bought a new Colt one from Brownells and it's black.
Looks weird.

Black is "modern" post 2000 IIRC.

The old ones were silver, all of my M16's have silver springs on them. and I know they are pretty much original to the guns. The ones we were replacing in the armory in the 80's were silver.
