Has anyone seen this kind of corrosion on a 604 receiver.  Spotted "pitting" on only the photographed side of this 604/M16A2 conversion.  Looks like the Gunsmith shop at Lackland AFB refinished the lower over the pitting......

Author of the Black Rifle books has a youtube channel going...did a one hour video on the early M16.

He talked about the corrosion in older receivers, and the switch to modern 7000 series alloy to combat corrosion.
Went on to say some early M16 rifles became so corroded from carry in the jungle, that you could see holes in the side of the magazine well.

Sooooooooo, that pitting on the pictured receiver looks like it may have been a common thing in hard used rifles of the time.

BRAAAP would have been a better engraving.  If they can't spell BURST, maybe they can spell phonetically.

Yes this not uncommon in well used military rifles.  I saw a early a1 that had similar pock markings and the colt pony was getting blurry as were the other roll stamping.   I think is very cool knowing this gun has been around.
