Since this refers mainly to ArmaLite Costa Mesa CA I thought it might be more appropriate here than in the AR Variants. Yesterday I received my Jan 2017 Rifleman and it had an extensive article on the AR-7 including the rare IDF pilot bailout model, well worth checking out if your interested in the history of ArmaLite.

I wish someone....ANYONE would do the AR-7 justice and build one to the quality of Colt or Armalite or even some of the boutique guns.

The general design is solid.....it's just made to crappy specs.

I wish someone would make the bolt action .22 Hornet ?AR5? version.

^^^ This ^^^

Thanks for the heads up. I just went and grabbed my copy off the coffee table. Didn't notice the inset on the cover when it came in the mail yesterday. I'll be on my bunk!

The AR article says the current Henry version is the best ever.

I wish I'd bought a Choate stock back in the day. They're unobtainium now.

Got one.  Henry's effort is hardly my idea of doing it right.  It's strictly designed to be profitable.

I'd also like to see a AR-5 bolt action rifle .22 hornet...

I've owned a couple original ArmaLite AR-7's over the years both were not all that reliable...

Cool concept just not really a very reliable weapon for the survival purpose it was intended for...

Some of the original AR-7 reliability problems were due to ammo selection.

I have a Armalite ar-7 Costa mesa with a wire telescoping stock. I was told it was for pilots but never could confirm.

Anyone know ?

.22WMR / 17HMR would probably be a better choice nowadays.

uzigalil if your AR-7 receiver has the ArmaLite markings removed then my guess it would be a IDF pilots rifle. There were also some parts kits imported minus the receiver.

Just read that article, very interesting.  99% of 22's made today are shit, only one I can think of that is decent and mass produced is CZ.

Those were done by the Israelis for aircraft survival weapons...
Does it look like this?

Used to see them for sale in the Shotgun News a long time ago...

That looks like a great way to get a ND.

That's beautiful.  If only I knew a skilled manufacturer who could stretch that receiver out to .223" length and set it up to feed from AR mags.

A civilian company was making a knock off of the collapsible Israeli stock years ago. I bought one, but it turned out to be cracked.

The Costa Mesa guns I've shot worked great with CCI MiniMags.

In survival mode.

Blows own brains out deploying "Survival Rifle".

Definitely a Darwin moment there.
