I know the Colt LMG had an A2 Upper without a forward assist, but it still had the shell deflector bump. This one is strange.

That was my first thought. It's forward assist looks like it was milled off

Wow , well done . Strange somebody would go through the trouble to use this as a 223

That would make for a nice .22lr upper.

They're just a plastic piece that attaches to the port door rod.

Can these still be used on a 5.56 build?

Depends if it has the cut for the cam pin milled inside the hump on the left side.  I have seen 9mm upper both ways.

Unfortunately I don't know. I saw it on a Facebook page.
And after I posted it here I couldn't find it again.
But it was a working 223

I think the LMG upper came with or without the Brunton bump - most had it. Mine for about 10 minutes before I sold it:

And if it has the hole for the gas tube to pass through the front. 9mm AR is blowback operated and doesn't need one.

My Colt 9mm A2 upper looks like that.  Has the cam pin cut out also.  Just can't seem to make myself modify it for a gas tube though.  db

RRA told me their 9mm uppers are cut for the cam pin. They do need a hole cut for the gas tube. ADCO does it, but I believe that JT does not.
