If you want to do it the non-toxic way, many people soak the parts in a mixture of Simple Green and water. 50-60 % SG and water in a plastic tub with a tooth brush. After cleaning, oil them down or use a water displacer like WD-40. Wipe dry.
I have a lot of two-stroke engines so I use old pre-mixed gas. Lawn mower 50:1 gas and oil premix works great. I soak all my dirty kits in it for a couple minutes, scrub clean and wipe dry. The furniture I just wipe clean with a Hoppes #9 damp rag if needed. Do not use any of the above if wanting to preserve painted rack numbers. Always clean wood stocks and HG's, etc., separately. For smaller, less dirty parts, it's Hoppes #9, a pie dish and a toothbrush. |
