Building an early a1, based around a MP  C marked barrel, unmarked FSB, drain hole present. Starting with an 80% receiver, so trying to find a 6 digit serial that would be "correct" for this barrel. I have seen the serial # lists, and thinking in the low 800,000 range would be ok. Do I really need something lower, or am I ok.

1966-1967
US Property marked XM16E1 Colt's and M16A1, both Colt Model 603. There are also a small number of US Air Force M16 Colt's Model 604 found in this serial number range. Serial numbers in this range were not run in order.
M16A1’s have been observed with serial numbers as low as 604,505, and XM16E1’s have serial numbers as high as 741,12X.

752,444-899,999
1967
US Property marked M16A1.

910,000-919,999
US Property marked Colt's M16A1 and US Air Force M16 Colt's Model 604.

1,000,000-1,999,999
1968-1969
US Property marked Colt's M16A1

Looks like you could choose from those ranges. MPC barrels were made up through 1969 so you could choose a number well up into the 1-1.9 million range.

Good luck with your project
