Hey everyone, it has been a while since I have posted. It wont be long until I start buying some more parts. My questions are about charging handles.

Is there any charging handles on the market today that are a replica Vietnam era M16 charging handles? If so, who are they and where can I find them?

I have seen the one Nodak has. I'm trying to figure out (with my untrained eye) what is the difference.

My first two builds are going to be 603, 629 and a 723 or 733.

If you can tell me what I should be looking for in a charging handle that would be great. I'm still learning and I know my rifles will not be 100% at first. I do want to try and get them as close as I can afford to and enjoy them at the range.

To my knowledge Nodak is the only company that makes XM grey charging handles. Their standard charging handle is correct for all but the earliest model M16's and is what you need for your builds.

Other than color, was there any design change in what is used today?  I thought one could just re finish a new one?

There is no difference, and there are enough grey ones out there that you really don't need to refinish a black one.  Just keep an eye on the EE and Gun Broker, and you should be able to find a nice original Colt grey handle for $25-40.

So are you saying the ones that I am seeing (standard charging handles) on sites like PSA and Cheaper Than Dirt. They are and would be correct? I keep looking at the one in my M4 build and I can't tell the difference.

There is no difference besides color, unless it has an extended release lever.

Awesome! I might have just saved myself 18-20 bucks then. I will only use the regular charging handle and not the extended release one. Thanks!
