| I need a sling for my M16a1 clone. I'm not looking to drop any big money on one. What would you recommend that's reasonably priced, repro or not. |

Quoted:
The 1st contract for the nylon "seatbelt" sling was 1969. If you want your rifle to represent an earlier time frame, the seatbelt sling would not be correct. Cotton canvas M1 sling is correct for pre 69 Do you have references for this info? I've seen lots of other people claiming that they came out in the early 60's, and I'd really like to know FOR SURE. |

You've been in the militaria collecting field for a long time so I will assume you know who Bill Ricca is. The info comes from him and Bill ONLY answers questions if he has the paperwork to back it up. The 1st contract for the nylon seatbelt sling was 1969. |
| I agree with M1sniper that Bill Ricca has the documents to back it up, I'v spoken to Bill Ricca re a couple items and hope to meet up with him this spring at the Springfield MA Militaria Show. 1969 seems to be the turning point from the cotton canvas to nylon gear, not to say there wasn't an overlap of earlier gear/accessories still being issued or passed on by departing troops. |
