Looks great. How do you guys stop the 550 from melting if it touches the barrel? Slow your rate of fire.
Serious answer: my setup is tied so short the sling itself (seatbelt, not a GP) rests on the hg cap/fsb, plus I don't do mag dumps so it's not a problem for me. Thanks for the write up, this is a different method than the one I used on my XM177E2 build, good knowledge to add to the toolbox. |

I'm working on some and will have them on here in near future. Curious, would guys want them with snap books gone and removed and strings fixed for install or as a kit where they could do them themselves? I'd prefer to do all the work myself. Keep us posted when you locate these slings and ready to sell. |

Thank you. Just purchased one. Will attach to my Model 605. Cool! |

Thank you. Just purchased one. Will attach to my Model 605. Cool! I really hope you guys aren't paying $13 freaking bucks for a GP strap. I realize the good old days are over but these were almost free just a few years back...less than two bucks per strap if I remember correctly.
A quick Google search... https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=gp+strap $4.95 at Omaha's is the most I would pay for an NOS 2" GP strap, simply because I trust them. $2.99 at Army Surplus Warehouse, but I have never done business with them. |

Cotton GP straps are still fairly easy to find. I already stocked up at my local Army Navy Store's going out of business sale though Shipping charges suck regardless. With Omaha's shipping calculator factored in they were only 26 cents cheaper . $9.90 for two straps plus $11.62 shipping to my zip code. So if your shipping was more, the E-bay deal with the fixed shipping rate would be better.
As stated above it's been a long day, I'm tired and going to bed now. |

Echo, a few years ago when I modified and sold 100 of them, those were all 1952 and 1953 dated IIRC. These have an interesting marking with 2 dates. Pic up shortly. Has a Nov 49 date and Jefferson Quarter Master Depot, but then the Feb 51 and O.Q.M.C. Not sure where O.Q.M.C. was. Maybe Ogden Quarter Master Corps? Center???????? Anyone know???

We are covered up in this damn rain storm or I would go to the garage and check them. I think I'm eventually going to have to start selling off my excess M1956 webbing and other misc military junk stuff. |

Best. Sling. Ever. All of mine were made by m1sniper, if that tells you anything. In fact, I have three unconverted GP slings I've been meaning to send him. FWIW, I have him do mine with Coyote Brown 550 cord - which I think looks better. (Faded) Not technically correct, but I like it. He does great work - I'm just not patient enough. So, all you guys I've sent slings to? They were HIS.
Anyone who has heard me talk about this sling should know the biggest reason I like it. Slung like a SMG, preferably on a fixed stock carbine, it comes up readily, hasty-slings perfectly (once you have it adjusted properly for the shooter) and you can transition to a handgun or sling the weapon on the back for climbing, etc. very quickly. No adjustment, no dicking around. (On IDF slings for example, they expand by use of a fastex buckle). Even the latest, greatest, hi-speed slings out there require you to pull a tab or something, other than a single point sling, which doesn't carry very well really. It's in front of you, in the way all the time when you need hands free. Probably a better choice for heavy armor use, but other than that the GP sling is, in my humble opinion, King, and m1sniper makes the best out there. |

You know what they say about opinions morg, lol. But seriously, I fix a mean GP field sling myself. I have kit form to sell or I'll fix one for anybody wanting one. Got 9 and just need to get rid of em before I want to build carbine for them.
Kidding around on opinion, I agree they're tops, but I love the nylon seatbelt as well. |

Yet another thread that has become a blatant sales thread in the Retro forum...
I guess the EE doesn't exist anymore.
Anyone want to buy a set of Retro flip-flops so they can sit back in their hammock, embrace their Retro build and totally emulate their inner REMF? Sorry, but this crap is getting old. |
