Say someone came across a very early MP barrel that had never had the gas port drilled or the barrel extension installed, Who would be up to the task to pull this job off? Let me ask as well....what kind of cost would I be looking at in completing the machine work to a NOS virgin barrel where it could be used for a build, Install barrel extension, drill gas port, install FSB, etc? The barrel is threaded on both ends and that's it.....

I would contact John Thomas @ Retro Arms Works 801-441-2801.  I know he does FSB's but he very well may do the rest.  His work is extremely good.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I thought early MP barrels had forged no-drain FSB with flashing removed

I'd be curious as to the "condition" of that barrel. I wonder if something went awry and that is why it was left without an extension.  Just thinking out loud here, as I know nothing about how they may have been done in the day.  I've turned a few AR barrels from regular rifle blanks, threading for the extension, chambering, porting, etc. Is it chambered?  Never had a front sight installed.......no tapered holes?   I might would have thought that the MP wouldn't have been stamped until it was complete and tested.  Hmmmmmmmmm

No tapered pin holes......I'm not sure on the chambering but for sure has been stamped with a "C" towards the front of the barrel and a "MP" where the FSB would be installed.

i would think adco would be up for the job since they do a lot of barrel work.  not sure if our resident smith's do barrel extension installs/gas port drilling.

if it were mine, i'd leave it be or sell/trade it for a barrel that's ready to go.  it's a rare piece and to finish it out even with correct parts would take away from it.

BAck to your original question......The barrel extension gets installed to 150 ft lbs, no biggie there. gas port and sight install is easy peasy for the guy that does everybody's sight install. How many barrels have JT cut to 10 inch from 16 inch. Each of those got gas ports put back.  The only thing that wouldn't be run of the mill would be if the chamber isn't cut...........but I would think that if the barrel has been MP tested it surely has a chamber in it.
