I stole this what looks to be an early 604 upper from a local guy that had it in his safe doing nothing...wont bother to say for how much and make people groan. From what I have found it looks to be between 1967 and 1971?
The sling mount and site base have NO wear at all and sling eyelet is held in with a roll pin, it has an early pickle fork 3 prong flash hider, and appears to have early forging but late enough were it doesn't match up with the lower mag well on the port ejection side. Parkerizing is still sparkly on this thing! Also notice the lock ring on the flash hider has tooling marks in its outside edge (never seen this before). C MP C is the only stamping on the barrel, the flash is completely removed from the sight base and has a round site pin. The gas tube is bent downward not out and then down like later models.

Looks like a 69-70 to me. Based on the CMPC barrel still having the sling swivel on with a roll pin vs. the rivet.

" />This could be a ringer for an upper I just got:round forge (I think ;never quite sure) CMPC barrel,. Mine I think has later gas tube and has a bird cage suppressor. I was leaning late 604/full fence for mine.. I'm probably other end of the price spectrum from you,but looking at the photos I thought :Well, there's a charging handle and bolt group ,so there's that. The charging handle is plain black and the bolt/carrier is colt SP1.

the gas tube looks like a later/current one.  it doesn't look like an early bend profile.
