I recently bought a damaged 604 upper, theres a crack in the index slot, when I torque the barrel it seems to cant the fsb ever so slightly to the left, im using a giessle reaction rod so im not putting any pressure on the upper,  Im going to install another index pin 180 degrees from original location and make a new slot on the receiver anyone ever try this?

I'm not sure what you have for tools, but be advised, the new slot and pin location have to be basically "perfect", or you'll just end up back in the same boat you are in now.

Dremel and cordless drill won't work? Just kidding I have access to mill,  have you ever done this?

Hkiller,

Another option is to use a virgin barrel.  Install the barrel.  Now, clock a new FSB on precisely vertical.  Drill, ream, pin.

Can you glue a small shim in there for the pin to rest against so it won't cant?

I was thinking a shim as well.

I have not.  Honestly, I don't think I would either, personally.  I'd lean more towards brazing some material in the damaged area of the slot and reworking the slot.
