Need some clarification on lower markings .  When & where do the Commando marked lowers fit in ? Why were some marked Commando & others XM177E1 or E2 ? Anybody out there got any good pics of lowers & serial numbers with any of the above markings ?   Planning on building SBR XM177E1 would like it to be 100 % accurate with a legit serial number from a demil.  Any help greatly appreciated.  Been sitting on some of the parts 20 years probably.  Time to get on with it.   Semper Fi  Kenneth

When:  February 1966 when ACSFOR (Asks-For)...put in an order for the Army.  First use of the word.

Like any other good marketing ploy, a catchy name sells better than an XM#.

Where:  Between the Car-15 (607) and the first XM177's.  XM177 to the USAF and the XM177E1 to the Army.
January 1967 first official type designation for the first time.
