I have found a Colt AR15A2 at a LGS. It is marked GOVT Model, but it feels like it has a HBAR, A2 sights, and no bayonet lug

Is this a mix match gun or is it a gun that is not listed? The asking price is $1000

swar15, Pic's would probably help.  But this is the  Retro Forum, and you may want to ask this and post some pic's in the A2 Forum.

But, there are a lot of guy's here that could probably give you some answers anyway.

Good Luck.

Many AR15A2 rifles have several A1 parts, sometimes everything but the furniture and barrel.

That is the correct build for the Government Model. They were built from 1988 to 1990. Without the bayonet lug it was a post 1989 model. It is not an HBAR, the barrel should taper down under the handguard.

If it's a HBAR the barrel will be marked C MP .556  NATO 1/7 HBAR...
The Govt model will have the same markings minus the HBAR...
A2's have a different  balance to them compared to A1's...
I prefer A1's to A2's but like A2 sights better...
