Hey all, xm16e1 complete ! Finally .

There may be something to this being a desease,
This rifle started because I wound up with a extra three prong .
If the desease get worse .,... I guess the next project could
Start from a extra roll pin.

Anyway , I chose to distress this one a little because
I had a pretty worn set of mottled stocks , and I didn't think it would look right
Otherwise.  So the upper is a nodak , finding a real ealy square
Forge colt would take a while, so this is a good sustitute.
The barrel is from ar15 sport, as are a lot of mics small parts.

The lower is another awesome 80% lower from braceman .
The transitional bolt catch is a reproduction from John Thomas,
Who also did all the  Parkerizing . Geobartlett helped me out with
The port door from the PIF thread. It was worn and perfect for this.

Next I sprayed the rack numbers and finished
The gun is in norrels.

I tried to sharpen up all the edges on the fsb, trying to give a cast look .
I might have got a little dremel happy, thankfully DR. Thomas
Cleaned it up for me

Next to it's distressed big brother

And so... I got this extra grip screw and a empty box ......

Enjoy!

Outstanding work as per usual....nice to see you are already starting on the next build (the grip screw).

Also still very jealous of your table!

Very nice! Both of them! I've decided I really need to do an 80% lower for my XM16E1 after seeing some of these great builds lately. That will free up a lower for...hmm.

Nice, you are screwed by the screw! I'm sure it is already pregnant and going to multiply. Nice build, BFPU finish is now on my list of can do's.

^^^^^^^^^ This!

Really nice though!  I am within a week or two of finishing a couple of builds.  I need to man up and distress the lower to match my upper!  I take courage from your fine work!
Can't wait for the next installment of "Trimdad's Retro AR Journey - AKA, My Wallet is empty"

Thanks everybody I appreciate it.
Funny thing is I kinda screwed up, when I sent the lower parts to Mr Thomas
I meant to ask him to dimple the parts..... But I forgot.
So at some point I'll swap them out with sonething down the road.

And I used a rock river carrier instead of a real transitional one.
I still haven't made up my mind if I want to spend the money
On one. I know it may not be exact ,,,, decisions ,,,, decisions

That lower is excellent! I am also digging the transitional bolt catch. How much did that run you?

A couple of questions:
#1: In the close up pic, left side, lower, it appears the "T" and possibly "'s" is missing "Col(T's). Is it missing or just the pic, and if so, is it to avoid copyright infringement?
#2: What scope is on the other rifle pictured?
And- beautiful work.

Thanks! It must be the pic . Braceman usually doesn't miss anything.
Now if I had been the one doing the engraving,,,,
It would all be spelled wrong !

The A1 has a colt scope on it. I beleive it's a 4th generation
, so it should be correct for a a1 rifle. ( if I'm wrong somebody correct me )

Thanks! Well I probably shouldn't throw john Thomas's prices out there.
But I will say it's very affordable compared to the cost of a real one.
Send John a e mail, I think he still has a few left

The T and s are there in COLT's, it's actually pretty easy to see.

ETA: Nice build, I really want one of those bolt catches.....kinda badly

Does he STAMP the lettering? Outstanding. I too like the bolt catch. Took me several years to find a real one. I guess they are not easy to make, from what Heatnbeat has said previously.

Man that sucks, I was wanting another one.
I'll bet he does another run. If not ask braceman ,
I talked to him about making some a while back

I don't have your kind of patience to do something like that, so I will just admire from afar.
