| Ok, my little old AN surplus store does in fact have what I remembered to be a brown stock painted green. It's in better than fair condition and is a 601 stock. The handguards are just plain jane painted to match it. So I was wrong about them. He wants $600 for the stock. I'll get pics next week. Is that ball park? Thanks. I just don't see too many for sale to gauge it off of. |

That thing still has the $200 tag on it, with a line throigh it and the new price. At some point since I saw it last years ago... He discovered GB and the Bay... Damn. He's very firm too on the price. A few years late and a few dollars short!!! Show him where somebody here got a green stock and a fiberlite for $130 this week. |

I do not recall ANY 601 stock--Type A or Type B--selling for that price, or even near it. (To the hive: Have I missed any outrageous stock prices?)
There has been that one Type B on the market for $650, but some people seem to be overlook the rather important fact that no one is offering to pay for it. If he manages to get six bills for it, please give him my email address. I have a couple here I'll let him sell for me. |

Every time I see them , they are running between 400 and 500$ But are they SELLING for that? Between $300-400, I have seen, and I wouldn't be shocked at over $400 for a really nice Type A. But I certainly wouldn't have thought $400-500 to be the normal market price now. Could certainly be wrong, though! Haven't bought or sold any in a little while. Maybe it's time! |

Well I know at least one person who bought one for that But a couple of years ago, I couldn't find one cheaper |

I would argue obviously not if that's what the market would bear. Crazy perhaps but if that's what they're selling for...
When's the last time you saw one cheaper or even saw one for sale other than guys who get lucky once in a while? I've been looking for a Mac and thought they were overpriced when you could get one new for $500 and now they fetch $5000! Crazy yes but I guess not too high as people are buying them. |

I remember $350. Also remember seeing green furniture with no takers for basically free or whole box of A-1 furniture / retro for lack of better term for $25-50. Most wouldn't have got caught lugging a box full of that stuff around either. Same with most anything that catches on. When I took up golf in the 70's $200 would buy top of the line used and one could play all day with lunch and beer for less than $10. Didn't member named BenC or such just sell some 601 furniture on EE. Never followed sale but am in the process of stripping off some green paint I applied to a very nice set of early furniture that is being rather stubborn. Go figure, if I didn't want it to come off it would have made a mess. |

I will definitely build a 601... the history is too cool not to. Call me crazy but I prefer the 602 and started one of those, I think you'd be surprised how difficult to find and rare some of the original 602 part are to find. I'm 2 years in and still not done, just got my BCG, now all I need is the original barrel. They just didn't make many of them, I'd rather spend my money on nice parts than colored furnature.I can understand having to have the original greens if you had a 100% correct upper or if you own a real model 601. The only reason I got an original 601 upper was to sell it for a profit to fund a 602 upper, I'd do the samething with any of the green furnature if I ran across some for a "steal" at a show or LGS. |
