Did you machine down the brass deflector to create the A1 look?

I actually like it, what kind of upper receiver is that?

I was in the process of moving it, ill get some of it back...sometimes I don't know where my stuff belongs, so I always gravitate to the retro section.

Looks pretty darn retro to me. I'm really liking the flat top.

I can see building an all correct retro if you are doing a clone, but if you are just going for the retro inspired look, I say just about anything goes. I may have to talk to Braceman about having a case deflector removed

If I wasn't so impatient I would have had the port doors parkerized. They are blued and a little too shiny.

Needs a Rainier arms slick side flat top upper. I think that would make it look less odd.

Honestly I really Like them both!!!

Not me, I would have ended up sawing them in half. That's Bracemans work.

I moved it back a bit. I was tying to use the buis, but acog was too far forward for me. If I can swing it, I'm looking at a 3.5X for the dizzy setup.

I prefer irons, but I shoot mostly HOGs in low light and I need something to bring in light. NV is not off the table either.

That's a JT mini duckbill on the mid-length.

I agree to the above statement. His fingerprints have been on a few of my retro and modern builds.

I reprofiled a DPMS Low Pro Flat top and it's coming out cool as hell, it's a slickside upper w/o a F/A and no case deflector but was made beefier for competition use, I used a spare SP1 upper as a profile reference and went to town with my dremel tool. I still gotta smooth it out and put a finish on it znd I'll post pics, throwing a Daniel Defese A1.5 rear backup sight on it and throw a carbine barrel on it.

That's very nicely done.  Who's rear sight?  Looks like an A-1 drum.

Here's my attempt at a retro flat top service rifle.  Older BM lower receiver and EE BM 1-8 DCM barrel,  mostly all Colt internals,  RRA 2 stage, no tic,  dimple pivot on both sides, dimple on one side take down,  tear drop FA, BTDT A-1 door, slip ring assembly,  type E stock with $3 pennies inside,  A-1 PG skinny bottom,  Armalite NM front sight and Colt take off carry handle.  It's about 11.5 lbs and gaining.

I still need to pin and install 1/4" windage pieces in carry handle and swap NM FF assembly but gonna shoot and enjoy as is for a while.  With a little careful shopping I'm at $594 ($597 forgot the pennies)  so far less mags,  FF assembly and ammo but still ready to shoot.  Even used the headspace guage's and it's about as good as they get.

My retro parts bins are getting kinda low.  Used my last Colt M-16 BCG so guessing I'll be looking for another Colt spare carrier in near future.  This is what happens to parts laying around.  Apologies for jack just wanted to post a pic.  Even got my first toes in pic,  now I need to get some retro Converse shoes.  Chomping to shoot it.  Possibly this weekend?

I really love the barrel that is extendable.
Want a carbine, push it in.
Want a rifle, pull it out.
Just needs a 607 stock now.

Tex, I think barrel is fixed, but the handguards are made of silly putty, with a slinky inside to add structure. An early Mattel design

While your upper looks great, it is NOT a "retro flattop". If you want a "retro flattop" you have to cut the carrying handle off an M16 or M16A1 upper. Then install a weaver rail.

That's what was done back in the day

True, true. But he gets big points for thinking outside the box on this one.
