| THe second one (with A1 sights) would have had a "1/7" CMP Chrome Bore 16" pencil barrel. The upper one with the A2 sights would have had a "1/7" Chrome Bore" 16" either pencil barrel or M4 barrel. I have seen them with both back in the day. These are both fairly old, since they do not have the machined steel block to prevent auto sears, and they have small pin (standard) fire control groups. |
| You might want to ask in the A2 Builds forum. The folks there may have better info on the time frame. |
| You did good IMO. Barrels are a little scarce today but production is slowly catching up. Market may be flooded in another month or two. Think it really depends on how accurate you want to go with barrels and how fast you want them. For an authentic Colt GB, EE or similar www site. For something that looks close there are a few options. J&T is usually pretty darn accurate for a true shooter, carbine pencil complete or even A-2 1-7 when they have them. Many use Bushmaster A-2 for builds when FN and Colt aren't available. I'd check Windham Weaponry also as they are starting to make some of the older profile barrels again. They are original Bushmaster employees before sold to freedom group. AR15sport or such has or had 20" pencil barrels. Kinda need to make a plan, stick to it and it will be much easier to make recommendations. |

I'm guessing these were converted to fire blanks only for miles/saab gear? The barrels on my company's rifles have the chambers drilled out on the blank firing rifles. I managed to buy a used Colt 6520 specifically for miles before they started drilling barrels, but I have two holes in the magwell where a live round inhibitor was in place. The good news is most of the firing in mine was from blanks, so once I got it cleaned up nice, there was very little wear. |

There are two small holes at the front of the mag well that won't harm firing. there are also two holes in the HG caps, also won't affect firing live rounds. The company is Craigs Firearm Supply, Knoxville TN, ask for John. I got the contact here on Retro Forum months ago. Bought two carbine kits, then two more, then two rifle kits, then my wife took me credit card away. $500 ea. for everything less barrel. The lower is worth $500 to a retro builder stripped and all the parts are colt factory except for the replacement HG's on one carbine I got. I have an extra set of Colt's so no big deal. |
