Merry Christmas to all! Dang that eggnog idea is a good one. Something the wife and I used to do. Heeeyyy! Never cared much for the nog but she liked it and I was rather fond of the Wild Turkey. Should be a good x-mas. I won a USMC marked NIW KAC flip up sight on e-bay for $41 bucks. I know not retro! Never had anything of the type that retail pricey before. Have had a lot of $40 carry handle and Matech rear sights. Guess a sight is a sight. It's either on or off. Also got some bullets and powder to re-load with. Even donated to the Marine Corps this week. Godson just finished boot camp and is off to be a young man in the real world. Almost wish I was young again but in one sense, once was enough. Happy Holidays.

It's officially Christmas Eve here in AZ, so I have no doubt that most of you are sipping eggnog and hoping your progeny enjoy their presents. I don't have any family close by, but intend to spend some time tomorrow with a good looking woman and her mother - weird I know. I just want to thank all the fine members of this forum for just being here. I have grown to know many of you over the years, and despite not having met most of you in person, still consider you good friends. I look forward to meeting more of you. This is due to the honesty, friendship and generosity you all show not only me, but to new people on this forum. The 'Pay it Forward' thread is probably the best example of the true 'heart' of this forum, and it continues to show me that despite the tests we've gone through recently as a family, the heart of this forum remains strong. Newbies here recently must wonder about us. I remember one comment distinctly: 'Yeesh! I thought this was supposed to be a friendly group.' This bothers me, in that someone new here got that kind of first impression from us. Anyone who has been here for awhile (it doesn't take long) knows that this forum has the friendliest, most generous people of any forum I have ever been a member of. I learned long ago to let the comments of those I have no respect for run off my back like water off a duck, and as the saying goes, turn thou the other cheek. It's difficult at times, I know. I want to assure new members that this forum is still the place they heard about. I think of this place as a favorite museum, and I am constantly impressed by the historical knowledge and the technical expertise of its members. We've shared a lot over the years, and I cannot imagine anyone with any interest in retro ARs not purchasing a membership, not just to help support the site, but simply in order to access years of great information that lurks in the archives. In conclusion, I just want to wish all the retro forum members a wonderful and joy filled Christmas. I am not vocally religious, but I do believe in the gospel, and believe that which you reap is what you sow. Knowing that is true, I know that God is smiling down on all my good friends here, and hope that you all enjoy your holiday. - Morg While I haven't been real active here in the Retro Forum lately I have been a Retro Forum participant from the day it began. In the early days of this forum it was started to see if there was enough interest in the "old guns" to support a forum dedicated to the early designs. Well, I guess we showed them, didn't we?!?! I've been lucky enough to have met a couple of members in person and I wish I could meet more of you guys. I think it would really cool if we could all get together for a weekend just to hang out and get to know each other but, considering that we are spread all over the country I can't really see it happening. I consider the Retro Forum to be my home here on AR15.com and all the members my "brothers in arms." I hope everyone has a good Christmas and Santa takes care of all those parts we are needing to finish our current projects. Doc |

Merry Christmas or Happy whatever you may celebrate!
Morg, Thanks for the thoughts - and I echo them. I joined back in '09 and lurked here for quite awhile - now have built a good dozen AR15's most of them retro! I appreciate both the knowledge and the support on this forum and also consider many friends here. You have been among many of the generous ones here and I appreciate it. I hope to always add to what makes this forum great. Thanks all - and be safe out there! Mike |

Morg, my brother--Thanks for the post, and the reminder of what season this is!
Sure wish we could share this holiday as we shared many in the past, with strong coffee, stronger booze and an occasional chimney fire. We may have time zones between us now, but I hope you know you're still here with the family in spirit. A nog or two will be hoisted in your honor! And to the rest of you infectious reprobates around here who have somehow forced me to spend all my money on archaic and nearly antiquated bits and pieces of black rifle history...well, in the spirit of the season, I forgive you! Merry Christmas, everyone. And God bless our men and women in uniform, far from family, who will be standing the wall tonight. |

From the resident New York City raised Jew, I wish you all a hearty Merry Christmas and a happy and safe New Year. Hopefully later this year I will be reunited with the reto ARs that I had to ship out of New York State (FUAC). As others have mentioned, I lurked here for a couple of years before I joined in early 08. Mostly for the retro forum. Thanks for all the knowledge and comradery. David |

And the rest of you, my heartfelt and deepest appreciation to all of y'all who keep alive the memory of those who carried these rifles into harms way. The trumpet was uncertain in those days; thanks for blowing it loud and clear today. God bless you, every one! |

To ALL of my retro brothers.........Merry Christmas, and may you have a Happy New Year. You all are a good bunch of guys.............and gals. I feel very fortunate to have been taken in, enabled, and led astray. Someone once said........"thicker than thieves". I guess that person didn't know retroheads, otherwise the saying would be thicker than retroheads.
Thanks all |
