Think it's tit for tat. C MP C could have had any of them. I'd use the pin personally not for corectness just I think they are designed a little better. Color on pad isn't all we'uns make it out to be either. For BFPU use the most worn in the bunch. Hasn't been that long ago I opened a brand new current production box of 100 buffers and found three different color pads in it including wine colored with dimple and pin. That's the one I bought though. Guessing they made so many of those parts that they still exist in current production. The orange one's have a slightly different color body usually but it could just be from a particular batch.
Use the sling on the right. That baby is loaded with character. Could even handle with dirty hands. I just weighed a few Colt buffers I had laying around. Never tried before. No pins I weighed three a black pad, orange and wine. 5.16oz 5.18oz and 5.19oz. Weighed two current production NOS lime colored pad with pin and they weighed 5.35 and 5.37oz. Would have personally thought pin style would have weighed less but I guess the weight of pin is difference. |

I don't think my scale is as precise, but on the two with pins I got 5.2 and 5.2, the one without showed 5.1. Lime colored pad one I have was 5.1. Can't explain that! Now I need a more accurate scale - cause this sh*t really matters !
BTW - based on Ekie's 603 sticky, it looks like this build should have a birdcage. Does it offend the retro gods to leave on the 3 prong? Could it have been period correct in some cases? |
| Don't know how accurate they are. I do use them to weigh my bullets and sort each batch in weight and length. All while watching sports on TV. Never really saw where it made a difference shooting. Length helps pressing bullets for consistent COL especially if crimpng. |

Was a time not too long ago when most all the retro folks used 3 prongs whether correct for build or not. Real popular with the 604 AF crowd as it appears that's where the ground fighting branches dumped them off. |
